The peace is ours, it goes far beyond any government or newspaper. It’s not even in hands of politicians or any States. The peace starts in each of us. Something new is coming in Paloma’s Workshop. The key is justice, forgiveness and truth. It’s because our story is built from our land: Colombia; because forgiveness is related with our people and truth is our reality.

This is a skill. This is not something that is just natural that we can expect everyone to be brilliant at just because we are human. It is something we have to work out. Listening is an activity. It’s not passive. We are creating the world by listening all the time.

Emprender Paz

We are about ready to submit an application to the contest Emprender Paz organised by Fundacion Social, the Swedish Embassy in Colombia, GIZ (The german cooperation agency ),Konrad Adenaur Stiftung and other private companies like El Tiempo and Aviatur.
The prize tries to promote entrepreneurship projects like ours that are hoping to make a positive impact on the construction of peace in Colombia
Through a private sector initiative, we hope to learn a lot from the process and hopefully be endowed with seed money to further our impact!

Mastering the art of a lean startup
75% of all startups fail. This is the reality everyone faces, no matter how brilliant the idea is. It is vital to minimise risk in order to become a viable company. We highly recommend Eric Ries book 'Lean Startup' which postulates wise advice for 'ideas' people like us. 'The goal of every startup experiment is to discover how to build a sustainable business around the vision'.
We have spent the last few weeks researching and creating a detailed strategy for every step of the way. The key to moving forward is through organic growth: through experimentation and customer feedback; not intuition and elaborate planning. 'If we do not know who the customer is, we do not know what quality is.'

Our values driven business: paving the path towards sustainable peace.
As with many business ventures, it often starts out with a grande idea. This idea was rooted in the experience of Pablo in Colombia after working for a government program reintegrating former combatants into society after a lengthy civil war. Witnessing the lack of employment opportunity, a business plan formed: why not create a company that contracts services from small businesses set up by former combatants?
'Paloma' was created was in response to the abundance of small textile factories in Colombia. Associated stigmas mean reintegrated factory owners find it particularly difficult to secure long term sustainable contracts. The company's philosophy rests upon the fact that former combatants are an equal commodity in business. Unlike any charity project, our company seeks to legitimise hard working individuals who have previously been cast out by society due to conflict.
In line with the growing ethical fashion market, our brand produces luxury ethical basics, using organic fabric sourced from Peru, and produced entirely in Colombia. The marketing message is that fashion can affect change, because our revenue is reinvested back into the growth of the small businesses we work with.
In short, Paloma is brand that opens opportunities for entrepreneurs in post-conflict economies. Starting in Colombia, a small international team of four experts in fashion, business, politics and policy have been working hard to lift our values driven business off the ground.
