Wheel of Destiny with the Spill Tarot
Wheel of Destiny with the Spill Tarot
Tumblr media
Halfway through a new month, and a new challenge is underway. Concentrating on just one deck was a good learning experience, which I’d like to stick with. While I’ve still plenty to learn from the Minchiate, it’s time to look at another deck. So, moving from the antique to the avant-garde, I realise I haven’t used the Spill Tarot deck nearly enough. I blogged about it a couple of years ago, so…

Joining the dots for another Minchiate square of nine
Joining the dots for another Minchiate square of nine
Bringing the last three rows together in the order they were deal gives a square of nine thus.
Tumblr media
As before, without a specific question, one could simple assemble the previous interpretations into one narrative, but again I want to see how everything fits together between the lines. So here is the first crossing.

Another three, another six - the Minchiate
Another three, another six – the Minchiate
Tumblr media
For the final line of three the following cards fell:
Four of Swords: retirement, loneliness, meditation, economy measures, a practical mind, a degree of intellectual maturity.  One more Sword card with mysterious illustrations: the unicorn at the base can symbolise chastity, faithful marriage, and even Christ’s relationship with the Virgin Mary; the bear reading the book at the top presumably…

Three more cards, six more stories - Minchiate deck
Three more cards, six more stories – Minchiate deck
Tumblr media
The second line fell thus:
Four of Chalices: satiation, boredom, aversion, apathy, investing love in another person. The ape with the mirror is an obvious symbol of the folly of vanity.
Page of Staves: the beginning of a new project or significant stage of life, a message, good news, a faithful friend, hesitation between decision and action.
Page of Swords: spy, secrecy, vigilance, examination,…

Three cards, six stories - Minchiate Deck
Three cards, six stories – Minchiate Deck
Tumblr media
After a slight pause while life got in the way here is round two of the Minchiate spreads.
Another challenge that the Minchiate deck presents is the range of incidental illustrations that appear in the pip cards, and particularly in the Swords. The Court cards differ also, in that Knaves are represented by female figures in Chalices and Coins, and male in Sword and Staves, while Knights are shown…

I Trionfi del Minchiate
Tumblr media
One of the challenges of reading with the Minchiate deck is the expanded Major Arcana, or Trionfi/Triumphs. Instead of 22 there are 40 cards. These are inserted between Arcanum XV The Devil and Arcanum XXXVI The Star, and are comprised of the following: Arcana XVI-XVIIII , the 3 Graces – Faith, Hope and Charity – and Prudence, pictured here (which completes the quartet of the 4 Cardinal Virtues…

Joining the dots for a Square of Nine - the Minchiate deck
Joining the dots for a Square of Nine – the Minchiate deck
With three rows of three completed in the last three posts, it is simple to construct a square of nine which, retaining the order in which all the cards were dealt, falls thus.
Tumblr media
In the absence of a specific question, a  simple way to interpret this spread for a general outlook reading, would be to combine the three stories already recorded, and perhaps treat each line as past influences, present…

Another three, another six - Minchiate deck
Another three, another six – Minchiate deck

The cards in the third row fell thus:
Eight of Staves: swift progress towards a good result, work plans, rural/countryside matters – a visual forest or thicket?, unexpected problems caused by strangers.
Knave of Coins: diligence, study, visually bringing a gift (and/or) financial or domestic news, waste.
King of Coins: in control of one’s material…

Three Cards One Story - the Minchiate Deck
Three Cards One Story – the Minchiate Deck
Tumblr media
My challenge for March is to learn more about the Minchiate, a tarot deck I have had for a couple of years, but have not got to grips with. It differs from the conventional tarot in a number of ways, but principally in that it has 97 cards, including 40 trumps or triumphs. These include the 22 conventional major arcana, but they are supplemented by the 12 signs of the zodiac, the 4 graces and the…

Square of Nine Spread - The Illuminated Tarot
Square of Nine Spread – The Illuminated Tarot
Tumblr media
Here is a Square of Nine / Magic Square spread using the Illuminated Tarot for a general outlook of the week in hand. I have adopted the King of Diamonds/Coins/Pentacles as a significator recently , and he fell out of the deck while I was shuffling, so here he is again at the centre of things. With the central significator, this is a spread that I read clockwise from the upper left.
The…

Stuck in a Rut Spread - the Pictarot deck
Stuck in a Rut Spread – the Pictarot deck
Tumblr media
This is a five card spread aimed at identifying a way of a rut, taken from @cartomancyspreads on Instagram. I’m using the pip and court cards from the Pictarot deck.
Moving from left to right in an arrow formation, the questions are:
1. Why am I stuck in this rut? Jack of Diamonds
2. What is my first step to getting out of it? Queen of Spades
3. What should I let go? Four of Diamonds
4. What…

For the Feast of St Valentine, a monochrome set of Arcanum 6: The Lovers, from the Icelandic Tarot, the Dark Exact Tarot and Pictarot.
The Icelandic Tarot
For our will-power to allow us to compete with Hercules – an ambition which is not forbidden to us – we must involve ourselves with no going back , in the harsh path of virtue precisely so that our volitions are not squandered on pursuing pleasure and the little diversions of life. One might judge it wise just to let oneself live by savouring joys which come along without priding oneself on being heroic.
Oswald Wirth, The Tarot of the Magicians.
The Dark Exact Tarot
… the Card represents the Creation of the World. The Hierarchs held this secret as of transcendant importance. Consequently, the Initiates who issued the Tarot, for use during the Aeon of Osiris, superseded the original card above described in “The Vision and the Voice”. They were concerned to create a new Universe of their own; they were the fathers of Science. Their methods of working, grouped under the generic term Alchemy, have never been made public. The interesting point is that all developments of modern science in the last fifty years have given intelligent and instructed people the opportunity of reflecting that the whole trend of science has been to return to alchemical aims and (mutatis mutandis) methods. The secrecy observed by the alchemists was made necessary by the power of persecuting Churches. Bitterly as bigots fought among themselves, they were all equally concerned to destroy the infant Science, which, as they instinctively recognized would put an end to the ignorance and faith on which their power and wealth depended.
The subject of this card is Analsyis, followed by Synthesis. The first question asked by Science is : “Of what are things composed?” This having been answered, the next question is: “How shall we recombine them to our greater advantage?” This resumes the whole policy of the Tarot.
Aleister Crowley, The Book of Thoth.
The Pictarot
And If The Lover Spoke …
When I enter you like I enter the figures of the Arcanum, I communicate divine love to the smallest of your cells. I blow across your mind like a hot hurricane that eliminates from you language all criticism, aggression , compassion, spite, and the entire scale of pride that separates the spectator from the actor. I insinuate myself into your sexual energy to soften all brutality, and all traces of conquest and possession. I confer to pleasure the sublime delicacy of an exploding angel. When I dissolve in your body, it is to detach you from the dictatorship of mirrors and models, the gaze of others, the pain of comparisons. I permit you to live you own life and assume your own light and beauty. In the heart where I dwell,I drive out the illusions of the unloved child. like the bell tower of the cathedral, I spread the penetrating vibrations of love in your blood, stripped of all resentment, all emotional demands that have become a travesty of hatred, and all jealousy, which is only the shadow cast by abandonment. I initiate you into the desire of obtaining nothing that is not also for others. The island of the ego is transformed into an archipelago.
Alejandro Jodorowsky, The Way of Tarot.

This is a Council of 13 spread inspired by re-reading Camellia Elias, and watching Enrique Enriquez film Tarology. The cards are deal in clockwise circles from the centre, and read in consecutive pairs.  The Significator was chosen before dealing – the King of Pentacles.
This again is a question regarding a new job. Should opportunities to continue old work projectst still be accepted while…

Tattoo Playing Cards - New Deck Interview Spread
Tattoo Playing Cards – New Deck Interview Spread
Tumblr media
I bought the Tattoo Playing Card deck on impulse a couple of years ago. I didn’t much like it once I’d got it home and put it away thinking I might give it to a friend eventually. It’s produced by Kikkerland Design, whose other playing cards include the glow-in-the-dark deck, the invisible deck and the 3D cats deck, so they’re not exactly somewhere to go for high occult culture. A couple of…
