what annoys me the most about the "guys/dude/bro is gender neutral" stuff is that, in places where that was not part of the dialectic, cis women very much did and still do dislike having those terms used for them!! what ended up happening though was that if any of them said "i'm not a guy" or "i'm a girl", they got the biiiiiig eye roll and exasperated sigh and maybe a begrudging apology OR much more popularly they were met with the "okay guys and GIRL" and they lost status immediately. "guys is gender neutral" has been said to cis women too, and they also ended up getting branded as "angry man-hating feminists" - later as "terfs" or "radfems", when being a feminist (in title only) became like cool to say you were. "oh sorry should i spell it WOMBYN too?" became a retort.
