Plastic Machining Vs Plastic Molding of Components
Our company recently exhibited at a design fair in New England. At the fair, I couldn't help noticing how many engineers came to our booth and collected our parts. They were drawn to the various shapes, colors, and how the headlights displayed the many sharp angles that only precision machining can produce. Each of them turned the part over and over again, showed their companions, argued among themselves, then, each time, the visitor looked up and asked the same question:
"Are these parts injection molded?" "No, they are not," I would reply and sigh internally knowing that I was dealing with another design engineer who believes that molded parts are more cost-effective and a better option.
