Meet Alessandro Castro, a master accordion player and singer who calls himself “Il Carrettiere di Erice,” or the Cart Driver of Erice. Alessandro specializes in performing Sicilian and Neopolitan songs. You can find him in front of the Castello di Venere at the top of Mount San Giuliano in Erice. I was fortunate enough to sing Cu ti lu dissi with him last May. #alessandrocastro #erice #accordionplayer #cantante #carrettieredierice #singer #siciliancart #carettosiciliano #caretto #carrettiere #experiencesicily #sicily #sicilia #siciliabedda #sizilien #italy #italia #italien #sicilians_world #ig_sicily #siciliaph #siciliafoto #fotosicilia #sicilyphoto #instasicilia #gf_italy #siculamenteDoc #sicily_tricolors #ig_visitsicily (at Castello Di Venere)

Griko- Since ancient times, Greeks have colonized and influenced Southern Italy, to the point that the coast of southeastern Italy is still sometimes referred to by it’s ancient name Magna Graecia (Greater Greece). While most of the area and its inhabitants were Italianized by the Middle Ages, some pockets of Greek culture have remained in the form of the Griko people. Traditionally the Griko speak their own language also called Griko (although most today speak Italian), while being members of the either the Greek Orthodox or Byzantine Catholic churches
