She’d spent longer in the card section than she’d excepted scanning through the options. Nothing really summed up her situation well the step-parent ones were brisk and seemed more formal than she’d like and the regular ones fell short. Eventually the blonde settled for one that she liked the front of, a dog with floppy ears in a suit and tie hugging a puppy and proceeded to use a pen to cross things out and rewrite it.

Emma took out a carefully made card slapping it down on the table. She’d kept some printer paper from a library and written on it with crayons from a diner. It was a little childish but in human years she was on a little over one anyway so she was cutting herself a break.
‘Dear Dad,
Happy Father’s Day I’m glad I didn’t kill you and that you made it out of purgatory. It means a lot to me that you ended up being a good person and I’m trying my best to be good like you too.
Emma.’
“I made it.” Emma explained as if it were obvious shifting slightly on her feet. The need for approval she felt towards him was still a little weird.

Dean becoming more and more possessed by the first blade drives Emma away. She sides with the others in not believing that Dean didn't kill Tessa and between witnessing the loss of the Angel Army which she'd thought was a good idea in the first place, and then Dean attacking Gadreel she loses faith in her Dad. She's 19 at that point so she has the ability to leave if she wants to, as a result Emma not wanting anything to do with the Mark of Cain and the First Blade leaves the bunker and goes to Jody's.
#&& headcanon.#it also gets her out of the way for the way for the metatron fight and she gets home again with the dean 'death'#becoming disillusioned when it comes to your parent is a canon event#it's much more complicated than that but she's only 19 at that point

hear me out. kevin and emma. they were both 16 when they would have met then they meet again, leaving emma with kevin at times to keep him company and just lend a hand doing random things when they see the kid falling apart and it makes room for the hunts where emma just doesn't really fit in. granted this means towards the end emma isn't around still because the kidnapping has to happen but you can reason that with sam is falling apart more so dean doesn't have the time or mental space to be benching his daughter when they need the extra hand. but it leaves space for a romance to grow there and then he dies tragically so it fits the winchester motif.
