sometimes i daydream about running off to the beach. i think about the feeling of running straight towards the ocean, nevermind the sand i hate so much. i imagine what it's like feel the first dip with the toes, then to the knees, further and further, to gain depth. i daydream that i enter deep into the ocean with my eyes meeting the horizon, to be carried away by the waves cool grip, to fall under, to be free from it all.

30 day song challenge 29/30: a song you remember from your childhood
Say You’ll Be There - Spice Girls
i was a definitely a spice girls fan as a kid, and i remember my dad's friend had a vhs recording of one of their concerts for their daughter and they came over with the tape so i could watch it. i remember watching this music video on the tv as well whenever it came on.

30 day song challenge 28/30: a song by an artist whose voice you love
He Can Only Hold War - Amy Winehouse
i feel like i don't need to add much commentary here. anyone who is into the music industry and scene understands the uniqueness of amy's voice and what she was doing musically. i just know i still listen to her music as if it's new, i never tire of it.

30 day song challenge 27/30: a song that breaks your heart
Anxiety - Megan Thee Stallion
what really breaks my heart when listening to this song, besides understanding the feeling of anxiety myself and the personal hell that it can feel like, is knowing the context that led up to megan writiing and releasing this song. to be so alone in the world, to know people do not have your back, to not have the safety net from people in your life, it's hard to watch and listen and think about. watching her performance of this song on snl was also a moment that solidified the heartbreaking quality of this song.

30 day song challenge 25/30: a song you like by an artist no longer living
At Your Best (You Are Love) - Aaliyah
most of my good friends prolly know that aaliyah is one of my favorite singers. aside from the music, i liked her style and aesthetic, i remember when she was part of romeo must die and i thought it was so cool that she was working with an asian man, at a time that asian people weren't really prominent in media. i remember seeing her music videos on MTV and also watching queen of the damned as a kid and thinking she was so beautiful. as for the song, i like this cover of at your best she did. i think the light vocals sound nice.

30 day song challenge 24/30: a song by a band you wish were still together
Books - Swiss Lips
I actually found this band during the height of my tumblr era, so kinda full circle that I decided to start blogging on tumblr again and do this challenge and get to think about this band. I remember replying to one of the bands tweets and they actually responded back to me which was so cool to me back then. I still have a band tee from them, though I never got to see them perform live as they’re from Europe.

30 day song challenge 23/30: a song you think everyone should listen to
Weak - Freddie
I don’t really have like ONE single I think everyone should listen to. I don’t think it works like that. But I’ll just plug an indie artist I enjoy here. I randomly found them on SoundCloud and they were in the Bay Area at the time. I once saw them perform at the sf moma and got to take a pic with them after. It was nice.

He’s Not Into You - ENNY
I’m not sure that this song necessarily moves me forward but I do listen to it sometimes when I feel like I need to remind myself and people don’t like me and it’s their right to feel as such.

30 day song challenge 21/30: a song you like with a persons name in the title
Donatella - Lady Gaga
I picked this song for because studying fashion I was always intrigued by both the Versace brand and donatella. I also picked this song because it’s from ARTPOP which I think is an underrated Gaga album and I have memories of singing this song in the car with Nathan.

30 day song challenge 19/30: a song that makes you think about life
quiero sentirme bien - Kali Uchis
there’s this line in the song, “is there any kind of lovin that’ll make this alright? is there any kind of world i won’t always have to fight?” that really resonated with me about life and about how I feel inside.

30 day song challenge 18/30: a song from the year you were born
Baby-Baby-Baby - TLC
Even tho this song came out the year I was born, and I didn’t discover it until much later - I remember watching TLC in their fanmail era on tv and seeing their music videos. As I grew older and gained access to YouTube I was able to learn about and listen back on their earlier music and became a fan of their first album. I love how these women were doing something different for their time, being sex positive, experimenting with their style, being honest about their hardships, etc.

30 day song challenge 16/30: a song that’s a classic favorite
How Deep Is Your Love - Bee Gees
Is this a classic? I hope it is. This song reminds me of my dad, who always had an interest in music his whole life. I think that might be where I get my interest in music from. He used to play the bass and guitar in a band when he was younger. I remember when I was younger I would hear him listening to music like abba and Bee Gees and mo town classic and I always enjoyed this one and it’s sentiment.
