COVID-19

In the kitchen.

This is the place 

                         where laughs are shared during meals 

                  where sweets are baked

                                                        and recipes are cherished

for now 

     the table and chairs are empty

but soon family will gather and settle in 

                                                                                                         and fill the void

people will fill the seats 

                      and food will fill the table 

When you look up at the tea cabinet

                                       you will see the lottery ticket

there will always be a lottery ticket 

                                         tucked in the crack 

                                 of that door

fingers will be crossed

           hope will be in the air

               every person wanting to win the jackpot 

but what most don't realize

                       is that we already have hit the jackpot

                                     having an amazing family and home

is the greatest win of all

Before you open 

                           the fridge 

                                         look at the photos 

                                                               pinned to the surface 

memories and moments

                      that seem to have lasted for a lifetime in those seconds

       but were captured as one 

dozens of them occupy this fridge

 See that

             right over there

those bottles contain wine

                    POPPED open to celebrate 

               those special occasions

        those small glasses after a day of big struggles

those seemingly endless glasses during the hardest times
