It never ceases to astound me that Riku’s Sacrifice was framed as this huge emotional climax, a visual climax, the culmination of Riku’s arc to protect his precious person and....so many people still don’t think it means anything, don’t think it even accomplished anything, barely even think about it at all. And I get it, the fact that the narrative itself goes on to completely ignore it and act like it never happened (because Sora doesn’t remember it) is the reason. But you would think that the contrast of having this big obviously important moment shown TWICE vs how it is completely ignored afterwards would make more people suspicious. Like, Riku being the light is truly not subtle at all. It’s something we are shown over and over in kh3 especially. But in the end the vast majority of players only believe what they are told and that’s all they remember.

Thinking about how in kh1 Riku protected Kairi's body and Sora protected her heart/soul and how she would have probably died if one of them didn't do their job correctly and protected her the whole way through, and how at the end of the day they were working together without even knowing it, and how she was with both of them at the same time, and then she was the one to give Sora his human form back, and she was the one to stir Riku's heart enough to give him strength to hold Ansem off; and how in that game she is the literal ocean binding the sky and earth to each other uh
