Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is the fourth book of Harry Potter series written by J.K. Rowling. This novel is released in 8 of July, 2000. It is a fantasy and fiction novel. This novel tells the journey next of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger in Hogwarts school of magic. In this novel, the story focus on Harry’s journey during the Triwizard Tournament and how he solves the three dangerous tasks. The last part of the novel tells about the arising of Voldemort – the Lord of the Dark.

C. Interpretative Recount

The story begins when Harry, Hermione, Ron and the Weasleys watch the 422nd Quidditch Worldcup. After watching the tournament, they come back to their tent. They hear a loud voices outside their tent. It is from the Death Eaters. Ron’s father ask them to get the Portwayso they can save themself. Harry tries to escape but he can not as he falls to the ground unconciously. The only thing he remember is he saw a guy. Glad that his friends come back to him.

Harry and his friends arrive safely in Hogwarts. This semester, Beauxbatons and Durmstrang visit his school as a guest because The Triwizard Tournament will be held in a few days. The students must above 17 years old to join this tournament. They should put their name inside the goblet of fire and the chosen student may not turn back. There will be 3 dangerous tasks they must overcome to win this game.

The due date comes, the goblet of fire throws up several names of the contestants; Fleur Delacour, Viktor Krum and Cedric Diggory. They are surprised when Harry’s name appearead as they know Harry is only 14 years old. But the rules are the rules. Even though Minerva againsts this decision, Albus Dumbledore still wants Harry to compete in this tournament. He asks Alastor Moody to take care of Harry. Alastor Moody is the one who chases a lot of prisoner that are prisoned in Azakaban. According to the rumour spreads among the society, Moody is acting weird lately, it so suspicious.

Harry tells the nightmare he had before the Quidditch Tournament to Sirius Black through letter. Sirius asks Harry if they could talk privately in Gryffindor living room and Harry says yes. Sirius comes in a form of fire-wood, he warns Harry that Hogwarts is not safe anymore for him. He is aware that one of Voldemort’s spy is around Harry. They are also talking about Harry’s nightmare during the holiday. He was dreaming of Voldemort in snake form, Wormtail and the guy that he saw on the Quidditch incident.

His friendship is getting worse as Ron thinks Harry has lied to him. But the truth is Harry does not know about how his name was included in the goblet of fire, also he has no choice.

Hermione approaches him and says that Hagrid is looking for him. Hagrid and him are taking a walk in the forest at night. He sees a huge dragon, kind of Horntail which will be used as his first task tomorrow.

All the participants gather in a tent. Unfortunately, Harry gets the dragon he saw last night. This dragon protects an egg, their task is to collect the egg containing the clue for the next task. He wins the first task.

Hogwarts held a ball as the sign of the beginning of the tournament. Harry and Ron do not get partnerts for dancing and they end up dancing with the Patils. Ron is jealous when he sees Hermione dances with Viktor Krum. Hermione yells at him if he should be more brave to ask her before anyone else.

It only leaves two days before the next task but Harry still can not get the clue. Cedric approach him at the corridor and tells him what to do with the egg. Harry do as his advice and takes the egg with him while taking a bath. He put the egg inside the bathtub and he can hear the clue. The next task takes place in Black Lake and he only have 1 hour to accomplish this task.

The important things of the participant have been taken last night. They should take back their important belongings or persons to win this game. The mermaids will guard over the area so it is not an easy task for them. It is a hard choice for Harry because he may bring one of his 'prisoned' friend. But then, he decides to bring them all to the surface even if it means he sacrifices himself. Glad that he can get through it when the lake's creatures attack him. He is awarded by a second place because of his moral integrity.

Harry goes to Dumbledore's room and he falls to a judgement room as he puts his head inside a china. He sees the guy he was dreaming of, he is Barty Crouch Jr. - the culprit of Cruciatus Curse, and he is also Barty Crouch's son.

The last days of the tournament comes, the trophy has been place in somewhere inside the labyrinth. The first participant who touches the trophy is the winner. Harry saves Cedric before and the decide to touch the trophy together. Unfortunately, the trophy is spelled by someone so it is actually a teleport that makes them arrive in graveyard.

Wormtail comes with something on his hands. Harry tells Cedric to get the trophy so he can come back but he refuses. He does not know that he is in danger, he wants to fight Wormtail. Wormtail gets rid Cedric by 'Avada Kadavra' spell and Cedric dies. Harry has to fight him alone. Wormtail puts his belongings inside a bowl, scratch Harry's hand to take his blood and it makes Voldemort arises.

Voldemort challenges Harry to fight with him. When they wand connected, all the souls of death people from Harry's life come. They tell Harry to get the portkey once he unchain their wands.

Harry arrive safely but Cedric not. He is crying a lot, then Moody takes him to his chamber. He introgates Harry and it makes Harry realizes that there is something wrong in him. When this fake Moody tries to kill him, Dumbledore, Minerva and Snape sneak into the room and save Harry. The real Moody has been prisoned inside a chest. This fake Moody is Barty Crouch Jr. a fugitive from Azkaban prison.

D. Evaluation

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire presents a lot of moral values.

Friendship is the best thing in the world. We must trust our bestfriend and listen to them if they have a problem. This moral value is showed when Harry is chosen as the participant, Ron and Hermione start avoiding him. But it does not take a long time. They become united again and want to help Harry to win the tournament.

The rule is the rule. It is when Barty Crouch makes his own son – Barty Crouch Jr. goes to jail because he was the culprit of the unforgiven curse.

The ones has died will never come back to life. When Harry’s and Voldemort’s wands are connecting, Harry’s saw his parents. His parents keep supporting him from the other world. Dumbledore reminds him that there is no spell to bring them alive again.

This novel is so famous, we can find it in every bookstore even if this novel has been released 16 years ago. It is sold in some different covers. The colorful covers may attract everyone to buy and read this novel.

This novel consists of 640 pages, it might look thick but because of the story and the writer’s ability you won’t realize how much time you take to read this novel.

E. Summation

Overall, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is worth to read. Especially for those who want to increase their imagination and writing ability. This novel is suitable for children, teenagers and adults. Even if it is a fiction and fantasy novel, it provides slightly romance or love story between Ron and Hermione.
