WATCH: POC CREATORS AT SF ZINE FEST 2015!
FROM OUR IN-BOX:
“Dear POC Zine Project,
My name is Jing, I’m a member of the POC film group VeuxdoChild, which is based outta Oakland CA.
Veuxdo is a curated platform for POC voices who are seeking truth and carrying on the funk. Our mission is to challenge the normative narrative by raising visibility of people of color doing dope things as the normative narrative. This year we connected with zinesters of color at SF Zine Fest. They had so many brilliant things to say about being an artist of color, diversity in expression and finding their voice. We wanted to share our video with you, in hopes that you would share the video and the love with your followers. We’ve included several different options for sharing.

Spring 2017 Internship at Paper Tiger Television
Paper Tiger TV is looking for a self-motivated individual who can take the lead on projects and complete tasks independently, but can also work with the collaborative structure of a collective. This person will work on various aspects of video production from research, to filming and editing. In addition, the intern will participate in biweekly meetings discussing current collective projects and social outreach for the collective.
This position is ideal for someone committed to working towards social and economic justice and interested in engaging with media activism, media critique, community-based media, collectives, non-hierarchical organizational models, solidarity economy, and social movements.
Main goals:
* Create new web and video content in collaboration with collective members.
* Work with collective to expand our audience through social media and other forms of outreach.
* Help strategize how the collective can maintain its vitality in a crowded media environment.
* Help organize screenings and other events.
* Be an active voice and participant in the collective’s decision making process on matters such as outreach, events, screenings, and distribution.
**Video production experience is preferred but not required.**
An internship at Paper Tiger is an opportunity to work in a small media arts non-profit and gain a wide range of experiences. We encourage interns to take initiative while learning more about our collective process. We will work with you to create an internship that is both suited to your interests and meets the current priorities of the collective. We intend to learn as much from you as you will learn from us. We hope you will learn from being a part of the collective and work closely with staff and collective members as much as possible.
Logistics:
This internship is unpaid, but we can provide transportation reimbursement or a Metrocard stipend. This internship can also count for school credit —just let us know in advance.
A 3-month commitment (February-April) of 8-10 hours a week is needed; preferably afternoons/evenings, as those are the hours our members and staff are in, but this is flexible. Attending collective meetings every other Monday from 7:30-9pm is highly encouraged.
Any age; people of color, LGBTQ, and previously incarcerated people are strongly encouraged to apply.
How to Apply:
• Send your resume and a thoughtful cover letter (both in PDF) addressed to Paper Tiger TV Collective. Please include why you would like to have this experience, let us know what your interests are and what stood out of the above description.
• Send PDFs to: julie (at) papertiger.org - Subject: Spring 2017 Internship: "your name here".
• If possible, please include a link to a sample of your creative work (web page, video, photography etc) (does not have to be professional, it can be school work or a personal project).
• In the body of your email please indicate which days and times you may be available to interview. Interviews of selected candidates will be done at the PTTV office or via Skype if you are not in NYC during those days.
• DEADLINE: Open until filled

Femen is NOT a feminist group
The Man Who Made Femen: New film outs Victor Svyatski as the mastermind behind the protest group and its breast-baring stunts
Founded by a white cis man, Femen is best known for staging protests featuring thin, white, able-bodied cis women bearing the breasts in public.  Choice quotes from the article include:
Mr Syvatski is known as a “consultant” to the movement. According to the Femen website, he was badly beaten up by the secret services in Ukraine earlier this summer because of his activities on behalf of the group.  However, Ms Green reveals that Svyatski is not simply a supporter of Femen but its founder and éminence grise. “It’s his movement and he hand-picked the girls. He hand-picked the prettiest girls because the prettiest girls sell more papers. The prettiest girls get on the front page… that became their image, that became the way they sold the brand,” she says.
Until now, the full extent of Mr Svyatski’s influence over Femen has not been realised. The film claims it was he who sent Femen activists on one of their most terrifying missions to Belarus where (according to testimony in the film) they were arrested by secret service agents, stripped, humiliated and abandoned in a forest close to the Ukranian border.
Initially, Mr Svyatski refused to allow Ms Green to film him but she was determined that he should feature. “It was a big moral thing for me because I realised how this organisation was run. He was quite horrible with the girls. He would scream at them and call them bitches.”
When the Femen founder finally spoke to Ms Green, he sought to justify his role within the organisation and  acknowledged the paradox of being a “patriarch” running a feminist protest group. “These girls are weak,” he says in the film.  “They don’t have the strength of character. They don’t even have the desire to be strong. Instead, they show submissiveness, spinelessness, lack of punctuality, and many other factors which prevent them from becoming political activists. These are qualities which it was essential to teach them.”
However, when he is asked directly whether he started Femen “to get girls”, he replies: “Perhaps yes, somewhere in my deep subconscious.”
