Upon first seeing Gyftrot from Undertale several years ago, I wanted to create a Rankin-Bass rendition of the character (ala Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer, etc). Like many, I grew up on those stop-motion specials during the holidays, and they had a large impact on my interest in the medium. I'm pretty stoked with how the finished image turned out! Gotta include a bonus behind-the-scenes shot, because it lends a vastly different perspective.

i was looking at the mood boards made for Falsettos (most likely for the 2016 revival) and found some Kramer vs. Kramer photos!

LMK if you can tell what any other of the photos are in reference to! i find it very interesting that the musical took some sort of inspiration from this movie :)

This year for Falsettos day, I've put together an archive to share my favorite recordings of The Marvin Songs. William Finn's writing has always been there to help me to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and I feel so grateful to be blessed with his memory today. I hope this collection brings you joy, and I may add more in the future!

Ralph Fiennes's breakdown in the Pope's bedroom in Conclave is one of my favourite parts of the movie. Here's this man, a priest with doubts, who's lost his friend probably something akin to a mentor or leader or father, and he isn't given a second to mourn him, which is anathema to the whole religion he dedicated his life to. No, he can't take a moment to sit down and breathe because he is a manager, so he has to manage. He is then forced into suspecting his brothers and his friends, and he breaks into the Holy Father's room, because his conscience wouldn't let it rest. And then he sees the Pope's glasses and breaks down in one of the ugliest fits of weeping I remember seeing in movies.

It is such a realistic portrayal of grief and how it sneaks upon you in the most unbecoming ways and unexpected moments.

it literally feels like something is missing now. that man was so pivotal to my adolescence and who i am now- i have no idea who or where i would be without his work. his unique composition pushed me further into my love for music- i wouldn't be sitting writing this in my school's music building if not for him. his way of story-telling got me interested in the theatre of the absurd, driving me to try out weirder, smaller shows, where i made amazing memories and met wonderful people. his commentary on masculinity, gender, and queer identity made me question my own relationships with those structures, transforming me into the multi-faceted queer trans man I am today. his feelings on art, on being an artist, making a name for yourself when you feel like you don't have time, made me appreciate what I can do, what i still can learn, and the time that i'm allowed to take to do it.

i was already acting when i first discovered falsettos, (that was at the hand of my mother) but it was that show, and all that came before and after, that made me love it, made me want to try, want to pursue it, made me understand the scope of what theatre could be.

yeah, it started out as a nerdy 14 year obsessed with the 'sad gay musical' during it's prime, but over time, it grew to be so much more. and yeah, it's kind of stupid to get preachy about a guy you never knew, but when someone puts so much of themselves into their work, it's kind of hard to not feel like you did.

QEPD William Finn. Tres de sus musicales me han marcado definitivamente para siempre. La capacidad que tenía de escribir situaciones y personajes absurdos, para tratarlos con total sinceridad y simpatía que los convertía en objetos de reflexión y compasión, todo mientras son interpretados por actores en un escenario!! cantando sus letras al tono de sus composiciones!! en coreografías!! es simplemente impresionante y aún no he visto en ningún otro lado algo así, retratado con tanta honestidad.

Fue un genio y su obra vivirá. RIP
