I wish I had anything coherent to say about the new Murderbot short story other than man Murderbot and ART sure do love each other huh.

Is it platonic? Romantic? Some secret third thing known only to part-meat gun robots and hyper intelligent spaceship AIs who watch TV together? Who knows! The important thing is that they are deeply, deeply weird about each other.

love love love the added perspective of MB and ART's relationship we get from rapport because now we know ART was definitely sitting there when it was taken over in network effect like "oh no! I have become a damsel transport in distress! surely my darling secunit in shining armor will rescue me from my tower and whisk me away on its noble steed!" and then murderbot effectively shows up, rescues it, and immediately dumps it off the back of the steed and says "bitch walk home."

i love that we got details about what the perihelion crew actually does when things aren't going catastrophically wrong and ART having Feelings about the secunit who waltzed onboard and changed its life!!!!

and iris knows it so well... even with her mind on other (very important) things she figures out so quickly that her hyperintelligent spaceship sibling has a crush~

one thing i feel really weird about though is

the governor module situation

because either

1: they went to the trouble of showing that secunit was under governor module control again, but the memory backup restored the hack and they just... didn't... say that? for some reason?

2: the new governor module is still intact and it wasn't able to leave until gurathin told it to.

and i think it's 2. and i really don't like that. that takes so much autonomy away from it and gives it to fucking gurathin, for some reason, and i've enjoyed gurathin's more prominent role overall but this is not... great.

i do wonder if they plan to have ART help it with the governor module in lieu of chopping parts of its limbs off in season 2, but i don't want that either! i don't want ART to have that stolen autonomy either!

this was such a good episode otherwise but this one thing is so weird and goes against the entire point of the books and i just don't feel good about it. :(
