i had such a good and interesting characterisation thought re. TK in the context of replying to this ask but i don't remember what it was very clearly and so i'm just. sitting here. trying to trigger the same thought

Did he want to talk about her?

More than anything else in his entire life, sometimes. He felt lost a little, a wobbly sort of want stuck in his chest that was always there when he felt unmoored. TK shut his eyes against the sensation of Grace's hand on his knee, a gesture so simple and so full, both at once. He was really, really lucky to have these guys in his life: the 126 and the extended family, people who were, like, amazing just by existing. Totally natural. "She..." he opened his eyes, shot Grace a look (really?), and then sniffed as he pulled himself up to sit, "god, she was so cool. I always wanted to be as kickass as mum was." He'd always wanted to be a firefighter, but Grace was completely right, he was his mother's son as much as his dad's.

Both legs crossed like a kid at school, now, elbows restin on his knees, he said, "You sure you don't mind me talking about this?" 'cause it would be fair if - "'cause, y'know, I know you've got..." don't take guesses at other people's emotions, his therapist would have told him. He took a breath, caught himself in the act of halfway making a guess, and redirected: "thank you. It's really... really sweet of you to wanna listen."

The sadness in TK's voice was enough to trigger Grace's protective side, her hand instinctively reaching out to rest on his knee. It was the closest thing that she could reach from where she sat cross-legged on the floor beside him. "I'm sure I would have, baby. From everything I've learned about you, I can see where your mama had some influence and not just your daddy." A soft smile pulled at her lips, even as she pulled her hand back to rest on her own lap. "Do you want to talk about her? I can listen better than most people, I'm happy to do it."

"You should've met my mom." He was lying flat on his back, arms crossed over his torso and tucked into the elbows, eyes on the ceiling. Rueful, maybe. This wasn't said thick with grief, but as with most things about his mom, the grief reached in a little. An implicit part of thinking about her. Anyway: "You would've really liked her."

good morning!!!!! i am so happy to be alive today!!!! what a wonderful time and place to be present and able to see it. I hope you're well, I hope you're being kind to yourself (and if not then I hope you can find a tiny little flash of relief somewhere), I hope you're able to see some flowers today!

started writing a 'tk and the 126 ems team are called to treat your muse (and a variety of others) found held prisoner in a remote and unmarked building which doesn't even appear on satellites etc' starter but i am 1000 words in and they're still getting past the joint military/police clearances to even step foot in the building and i think i started this starter WAY too early
