Where the Wild Things Are

design explanations under the cut vvv

The main four nightmares take inspiration from the book versions of the wild things, mostly in terms of proportions and poses. They're meant to evoke the kind of puppets William used to make for children's TV before Freddy's, with those glowing eyes from the movie. His Freddles are three little mechanized bears with drums, which they make a real racket with. Mike has nicknamed them Alvin, Simon, and Theodore because he doesn't like them.

Nightmare Balloon boy is a puppet of Mike himself when he was younger, accompanied by a little plush rabbit that was probably a prototype for Spring Bonnie before he was scaled up to be a suit, I don't know yet. Nightmare Mangle is based on those piles of clothes that look like figures at night, also a bit of inspiration from Rosco (Hello Puppets). Her many limbs are surplus puppet parts.

Nightmarrione is the only one who doesn't fit the theme, and that's because William didn't make this guy! It made itself. :)

Can you draw Nightmare Fredbear please? I love your art style so much!!!!

Okay, I know it says Nightmare Fredbear, but im gonna be honest I don't know what the significance of Nightmare and Nightmare Fredbear being different characters is. I don't even have a guess as to what it could be, so I always just combine them in my head. And for the visual representation of them being the same, I like going with Nightmare for the look because he's more distinct than Fredbear from the rest of the cast because of his different colors.

Regardless, this is kind of like a first draft of him bc I have a few ideas for pushing the design more in a few ways. Also, he'd sound like Bruce from Finding Nemo :)c
