Reviewing video footage again, and oh man I gotta find a way to cheer without screaming into my camera's microphone.

It appears that I must once more use this platform for a largely-unrelated call to action in an effort to retain access to healthcare for myself and many others. I'm dreadfully sorry to bring the active dystopia into a space I try to reserve for relief from the same.
So far as I can tell, the FDA is in the process of limiting future Covid vaccines to only people who are considered “high risk”, despite the possibility of Long Covid in even the most healthy person, the disruption to one's life that even a mild bout of Covid can cause, and the efforts of folk who simply wish to protect the high-risk people around them.
The FDA is accepting public comments on the matter through the 23rd of May at 11:59pm EST. If y'all want to be able to run around Faire maskless without threatening the actors or yourselves, please go submit a public comment urging the FDA to:
-Ensure an updated COVID vaccine by the Fall of 2025; -Recommend updated COVID vaccines for all ages and levels of risk; -Ensure vaccine manufacturers anticipate future dominant strains of SARS-CoV-2; -And preferably strengthen our vaccine drive by recommending more frequent boosting (at least every six months) and more frequent updates to the vaccines.
Here's where to submit a public comment (and read other public comments, if you care to). (For the drop-down question of "What is your comment about?", select Federal Government G0007, apparently.)
Here's some sources on what the FDA is in the process of doing and the repercussions:
Associated Press
PBS
NPR
Again, I try to arrange this space as a respite from the absolutely bonkers bullshit that comes from the folk whose literal job is to take care of us but instead actively threaten our lives in new ways every day. I'm sorry to drag this in here; but it's super important and time-sensitive. And, ultimately, it does relate to PARF: that many people cannot safely be repeatedly in such close proximity with neither mask nor updated vaccine, not even outside.
(A note to any potential antivax followers: the Autistic human behind PARF-fan has zero patience for your ultra-harmful abelist actions and rhetoric. Learn better, or unfollow.)

2024 raw footage: The Burly Minstrels (main season)
Sunday September 8th – Viking Weekend
youtube
Raw footage 18/119
Though out-of-house, The Burly Minstrels have been present most of the season for quite a few years now, and undeniably make up an important part of the feel of the place.

No videos for the rest of this week, I'm afraid. I've got far too many things vying for my time and attention at the moment, and keeping up with the videos on top of it all last week just about did me in. Haven't been this tired since the season itself. I should be able to pick back up on the sixteenth.

2024 raw footage: Ship Shape's one o'clock set
Sunday September 8th – Viking Weekend
youtube
Raw footage 17/119
Ship Shape is an honorary in-house group, being comprised of former PARF actors from 2014 through 2019. Arguably most recognizable as three of the four Sirens in 2018, which presumably inspired their current independent act.

2024 raw footage: Finale in song (main season)
Saturday September 7th – Viking Weekend
youtube
Raw footage 15/119
We sat in the backmost row for this Finale to alleviate claustrophobia; as such, the sounds and visuals both are somewhat unclear. Because we were in the very back, my friend and I chatted quite freely, and much of our conversation is audible in the recording (albeit not always intelligible). Wind picks up after a few minutes, enough to subtly shake the tripod. I believe there is more of a risk of motion-sickness in this video than any of the camera-winging ones. Finally, the Rogues' number is interrupted. Explanation is provided at the interruption (by way of lackluster voiceover).

2024 raw footage – Disasterpiece Theatre (main season): Law and Order
Saturday September 7th – Viking Weekend
youtube
Raw footage 14/119
As I knew I could only get to this one once, I chose a wide shot so I could set-and-forget the camera and fully enjoy the show. As such, everybody is pretty small, and some of the lines and details don't come all the way through.

2024 raw footage: Tournament of Arms (main season)
Saturday September 7th – Viking Weekend
youtube
Raw footage 13/119
My purpose in filming this show on this day was to capture Karissa Kosman's performance as leader of the Thieves' Guild. That being said, I wanted to be as uninvolved with the camera as possible, as this was my friend's first visit this season and I didn't want to distract her. So once the opening fight was done, the camera went back on the tripod. There is no tilting and limited panning for the regular fights.

2024 raw footage: English Wrestling (main season)
Saturday September 7th – Viking Weekend
youtube
Raw footage 12/119
If you never saw English Wrestling during the season, I highly recommend waiting until I post a different recording (I have three more). This one is not particularly a good example. The filming was wholly impromptu, with zero direction or creative planning; I couldn't seem to decide between closeups or wider shots, and there's camera-winging. Plus, at least one of the fights is different to the majority of the season, and the hype music barely came through at all.

2024 raw footage: Queen's Court (main season)
Saturday September 7th – Viking Weekend
youtube
Raw footage 11/119
My purpose in filming this show on this day was to capture Karissa Kosman's performance as leader of the Thieves' Guild. By good fortune, I overheard before the show that Jake Rouse (Cornelius Corningstone) was elsewhere this weekend, and therefore knew that I'd want to film in order to preserve the understudy performance, as I do. At the time, I knew not whether Jake would be out both days or just Saturday; and therefore filmed on Saturday despite the pouring rain. Thus was born my standard practice of perching my wide-brimmed hat atop my new tripod and holding the camera under the makeshift roof.

2024 raw footage: Pastimes strings set
Sunday August 25th – Pyrate Invasion
youtube
Raw footage 11/119
Definitely something a little different than my normal videos, as Pastimes is neither in-house nor adjacent to the same. Specializing in “real old music on real old instruments by really old people”, Pastimes is educational as much as they are entertainment. This is the type of show I would attend if I were not running from in-house show to in-house show, for it is the sort of history I adore; but as I am a slut for the in-house shows, I have not once attended a Pastimes set. This was filmed by my mother, whose priorities at PARF differ significantly from mine, leaving her free to capture such things.

Raw footage 10/119
I was only able to film this Disasterpiece once, so I had to try to strike a balance between wide(ish) shots and closeups. It did not always work.

2024 raw & aimless footage: Tournament of Arms (main season)
Sunday August 25th – Pyrate Invasion
youtube
Raw footage 7/119
Aimless footage of Tournament of Arms on Sunday the 25th of August, 2024 (Pyrate Invasion). On opening weekend, one of the ToA fights on Sunday was completely different than on Saturday. If such difference was to be the norm, I wanted to record it. My camera was occupied by the third Pastimes set, however, so I brought my iPad, set it rolling, and just kinda let it sit, not even looking at it, with the intention of picking it up and aiming if something unique or noteworthy happened. As such, it frequently drifts to pointing mainly at the ground, and most people are at least partially obscured most of the time (there's a whole lot of just legs, definitely some accidental crotch shots, I'm so sorry); and it is at a Dutch angle more often than not. Nevertheless, it is antithetical to my archival values to not make information available if I have it. Therefore, this is here. Definitely the sort of thing to use as background whilst mending or otherwise working with your hands, rather than giving it your full attention.
