Stepping away from what we've been working on for a moment, we thought you'd be interested to hear that the Entries are now open for London's urban design awards. London has been hosting the awards biennially for the last 14 years.
The awards, sponsored by the City of London, recognise exceptional designs by showcasing innovative projects. Awards will go to “exceptional projects that represent visionary thinking and raise the bar for design excellence,” said Gregg Barrett, city planner.
Tillman Ruth Robinson was the big winner at the 2019 Urban Design Awards, with a hand in three of the winning structures – including the one that took the new people’s choice category, the Boler Mountain chalet. Photo attached.

Next we'll be looking at a property in East Breary, located in the North Leeds Greenbelt. The client was unhappy with the existing layout of the home as there was a lack of natural light as well as the fact that there was a number of oddly shaped rooms.
We worked hard to refurbish the home and provide the client with a house that suited their needs. The new layout created a large open area for cooking, eating, and socialising that was accompanied by a 6m sliding door that flooded the space with natural light.
Our team also worked tirelessly to redesign a number of other rooms including the pantry, second lounge, playroom, study/office, and utility room; all without having to extend the property.

Looking back at a commercial project which we are particularly fond of brings us to Canal Mills, an iconic venue found in Leeds. This one might be quite recognizable for a number of you!
Formerly a mill that had a key role in Leeds' rapid growth during the industrial revolution, Canal Mills was transformed into a breathtaking multi-use environment.
The building was transformed into a diverse space for emerging talents to showcase their work in a space that could match their creativity.
The aim for Canal Mills was to create somewhere that could adapt to the events hosted there such as exhibitions, live musical performances, and pop-up food events.

Cork cladding can be a great way of changing the appearance of your property without breaking the bank. It is a renewable, durable, and insulating material that comes from the cork oak tree and can really spruce your home.
It also has acoustic benefits and can adsorb or dissipate noise. We have recently specified it externally on a small residential project. More pictures coming soon when it is complete!

Dock Street - completed 2016.Commissioned to refurbish a Leeds City Centre penthouse apartment in 2016, our first action was to remove the curved walls and existing features to create a functional living and dining area.
The large open plan kitchen was designed with flexibility in mind. The client required space so that they could entertain guests indoors while also being able to seamlessly access the balcony area as well - the apartment's balcony offers a stunning view of Leeds.
It's no secret that many apartments are short of storage space but what we managed to do was create a brilliant mezzanine area that overlooked the kitchen that the client would be able to access via a loft ladder - it's also a brilliant talking point when guests are over.

We're back in Cleckheaton to see how the Drub Lane property is progressing. In case you've forgotten or need a reminder, this project will involve the building of two extensions, a two-storey to the side and a single storey to the rear.
It has been two weeks since the photos on the last update were taken and it's clear to see that progress has been made already, plus the weather was a lot brighter this time!

Work is now underway on the Drub Lane property. The project involves the building of a two-storey side extension as well as a single-storey extension to the rear of the property. It is similar to the project detailed on Monday's throwback post, the Aspen Close property, and has in fact has been commissioned by the same client for their new home. The first phase of this project, the two-storey extension, is set to finish at the end of July. We can't wait to show you the end product!

What makes PARKdesigned so special? We believe in having a team that can adapt to specific client needs while also being considerably skilled in different areas. Headed by our two directors, brothers Edward and James Park, we have overseen stunning commercial and residential builds - and we've won plenty of awards along the way! As one half of the multifaceted directing duo, Edward Park has a plethora of experience in the commercial architectural world while he also has a particularly brilliant eye for volume residential and mixed-use projects. This blend of experience and knowledge has allowed Edward to act as a judge for the International Property Awards. Edward was previously the chair of the Leeds Society of Architects while he is also currently a studio tutor at Leeds University. Throwback Tuesday anyone? Aspen Close - completed January 2016.⠀ ⠀ This residential project was commissioned by a Gomersal based private client who asked us to design a two-storey side extension for an existing property.
The project was completed in January 2016 and was finished with bricks sourced from Germany in order to provide a high-quality matching exterior.
The finished project provided the client with a large open living/dining area as well as a study, utility room, and bathroom on the ground floor. On the first floor, we were able to both extend the bedrooms and provide them with en-suite bathrooms.
Remember, if you see anything you like the look of you can find more information on our website. The Aspen Close project can be found using the following link: https://parkdesigned.com/aspen-close

This project, Awesome Merchandise, saw us create a product that both increased and improved the working environment in the Awesome Merchandise office.
We proposed the implementation of the mezzanine area that would be accessed via the photographed 'break out steps'. This increased the office space by 4,100 square feet while also creating an eye-catching USP. This feature has since been used for both presentations and informal team meetings. The distinct design was incorporated to match the vision and ethos of Awesome Merchandise and resulted in a brilliant final product.
