Staring up at Deacon hanging from the fixture, Hyunmin’s own unlit cigarette dangled from his mouth limply. “It’s the weeping lady, but you’re close enough I guess,” he eventually replied, rolling his eyes and laughing. “I was going to ask if you had a light, but I’m guessing the answer is no,” he commented, taking the smoke from between his lips and eyeing up the height between the wall and the flame that Deacon was using. He came to the conclusion that there was space enough for two people on top of whatever decoration it was that the other was balancing on, and it looked sturdy enough to hold both their weight. He could be wrong, but he too was intoxicated to really care that much. “Coming up,” he warned, before scaling the wall, making his way up to Deacon’s side. Turns out, there was only just enough room for the both of them. Reaching out, Hyunmin got his cigarette to light, popping it back into his mouth again and taking a long drag. “We should probably get back down before whatever the hell we’re standing on gives way,” he advised, looking down at his feet and grinning lazily, one hand on the fixture to maintain his balance but making no move to descend.
STARTER FOR: Open! @srphq-starters WHERE: Danse Macabre, outside somewhere
With a considerable amount of alcohol in his system and his mood on the up and up, Deacon almost seemed like himself again as of late–intoxicated for an occasion and having a good time rather than drinking and indulging in habits until he didn’t have to msntally or emotionally face the last four years; he’d deal with it when he was ready—at least that’s what he told himself. it was a change of pace that Deacon welcomed with open arms, and deep down hoped would stick around a while after the alcohol had worn off. but for now, he was going to enjoy himself and lean into whatever tradition his new home seemed so hyped about.
while he stepped outside, anyone and everyone he passed he spoke to–either just a polite ‘hows it going?’ as he passed or, 'got a lighter?’ before he wandered around a corner and spotted a lit candle. granted, it was mounted high up on the wall, perched in a holder that looked old and fancy and went well with the decor of the event–so of course, a drunk Deacon was going to scale that wall for the flame that danced atop the candle. by the time he reached it he was standing on his tip-toes on top of some decoration, stretching as far as he could with the cigarette dangling from his mouth in an attempt to reach the light, only to catch movement from the corner of his eye. he jumped a little before he turned his head, blinking at the person looking at him like he’d just beamed down from space; still hanging from the fixture on the wall.
“jesus–I thought you were that wailing woman or whatever people keep talking about..”

“The party’s fine,” Hyunmin replied, taking pity on the guy who was speaking and getting no answers from the rest of the crowd huddled outside of the building. “As for the urban legend, there’s probably some truth to it. That’s how all urban legends start off, right?” Taking a long drag of his cigarette, he leaned his back against the wall behind him, breathing out slowly, watching the cloud of smoke drift off into the black sky above them. “It’s like Hanako-san. It’s a Japanese urban legend, but people have said it’s based off a girl who died in the second world war. If that’s how it works, then I wonder who the weeping lady was,” he trailed off, finally looking across at the male with a small smile on his face. “Wanna go find out?”

WHO: OPEN TO ALL
WHERE: DANSE MACABRE, OUTSIDE
The town respectively avoided the story of the ‘weeping woman,’ not that anyone truly believed it was real. This was simply a party for everyone to get intoxicated and have unprotected sex - not that he was complaining, or was he? Wyatt stood outside with a lit cigarette hanging out of his mouth, and his hands inside the pocket of his leather jacket.
“Does anyone even believe the urban legend?” He questioned allowed for anyone to chime in. He waited for a definitive answer. “Anyone enjoying the party at least?” He inhaled the nicotine, then exhaled the smoke - the sweet, sweet nicotine entering his lungs made him grin.

Taking off his cap and brushing his hair from his eyes, Hyunmin shook his head. “I know, you’ve told me before, it’s difficult, but it could be done, right?” he asked her, a small frown on his face. He’d been hearing the tales of the weeping lady all evening, and his curiosity was boiling over. He was almost desperate to find out if this person that so many people were claiming they had seen around the building was actually a spirit, or just a very good actor that had been hired for the event. “It’s probably not even a spirit anyway, right? So why don’t we go and track down this weeping lady and find out who it actually is, so we can nominate them for a Oscar or something,” he said with a grin, bouncing on the balls of his feet impatiently.
“Wait,” Elaine said. “You want me to what?” she asked the stranger who had approached her. Something about a weeping lady and herself being a witch that could probably comunicate with the spirits. “I think you have the wrong kind of witch here,” she said. Maybe this person was drunk or trying to play a prank on her but while trying the mini pizzas, she heard a group of people talking about it and mentioning that there was no weeping lady and that it was actually a ghost or something like that. “I can’t comunicate with spirits but manybe my aunt could help with that,” she added. “It’s not easy, you know? Spritis have their own rules and some of them can be pretty stubborn, not to mention agressive.”

Looking the woman beside him up and down briefly, Hyunmin finally gave a shrug. “Sure. I’ve had enough of the scare zones for tonight anyway,” he replied with a warm smile. “Plus, I’m starving,” he added, reaching out and picking up a sandwich from the food table. He was more than content to spend the rest of the night eating food and drinking. Taking a quick sip of his drink to wash down the mouthful he had been chewing, he turned to the girl, dipping his head quickly in greeting. “I’m Hyunmin, by the way. Your bodyguard for the rest of the evening, if you like,” he said, laughing, hoping he would be able to ease the tension that was radiating off the girl in waves with a few jokes.

Being scared on Halloween was a given. But it was the last thing Eva wanted to do. Literally ever. So she kept to what she thought was a safe space while in Seven Gables. She was near the food and the dance area. No one unexpected should be sneaking up on her. Not that she could hide much her hair was pastel orange and was dressed in a yellow shirt and blue overalls.
"I don't... I don't... Want someone to... ju...jump out and scare me." Eva sighed. She felt overstimulated. But under no circumstances would she look for a dark quiet room here... That was a recipe for being yeeted to another dimension. "Hide... he....here... with me?"

Hyunmin listened avidly, leaning in to hear Georgie over the noise of their surroundings. “I’ve heard enough,” he said when she was done, holding up a hand to stop her. “I’m in. Let’s do it. Do you have a game plan?” he asked her without hesitation. He loved the idea of completely turning this whole event on it’s head. Breaking the rules was his kryptonite, if truth be told. “We need a strategy. We can’t just go in all guns blazing here, we need to be smart,” he said, scratching his chin as he began to try and brainstorm.

“Okay so hear me out,” Georgie started, getting all business all of sudden. “I know the main idea behind Halloween and this events is to scare the shit out of us all. That is how it goes, that is how it’s been for like, the eternity, but what if we find ways to break the scare chain in our favor?”

The words ‘scare zone’ immediately grabbed Hyunmin’s attention, and he span around to see who it was that had spoken. So far, he hadn’t been able to find anybody that would go and investigate these scare zones with him. He hadn’t realised all his friends were so craven, but here he was, still searching for an adventurous companion. “I’m up for it. Let’s be honest, it probably won’t even be that scary,” he announced, shrugging his shoulders and giving the man a winning smile.

Picking a costume hadn’t been easy, but he finally decided on The Phantom of the Opera. He found an old suit that had seen better days, but the crimson coloring fit the look. The mask at Spirit was way too expensive, he was kicking himself for not throwing this all together himself. But…. Money was money, he’d make it back in no time. For now all that mattered was he liked the costume. The Seven Gables house took on a new life dolled up for Halloween. He barely recognized anyone as he explored the festivities. “There’s a scare zone…” Robbie mused. He didn’t know who would be up for the challenge but, he would definitely go exploring. “I’m… beyond ready.”

“I would never turn down free food,” Hyunmin replied, taking one of the cookies from the woman with an excited smile. He took a bite, humming with appreciation as his head bobbed slowly. “They’re good. I think they definitely count as being healthy,” he added with a wink and a quiet chuckle, swallowing and taking another bite. It was almost gone already, so from then on he nibbled at it, wanting to make it last a little longer. “Did you make them yourself?”
“—These cookies count as healthy, right?” Lainey asked, not even waiting for an answer before taking another bite of the one in their hand. Tucked into their purse was a whole bag of them - a spooky thirteen cookies. Or at least…there had been. Lainey had eaten at least four already. “They’re pumpkin shaped, and pumpkins are a vegetables!” Yeah… deep down the brunette knew that wasn’t how it worked, and the cookies, with their excessive icing decorations were probably packed with more sugar than most cookies, but they were delicious. The brunette knew they should probably slow down though, since there was so many other amazing treats on offer. “—You want one?” Lainey offered. That would be one less temptation. ( @srphq-starters )

Scanning the crowd, pokeball in hand, Hyunmin finally spotted the person he had been trying to find for the past hour. The costume was large, but somehow difficult to spot. His friend had been texting him to tell him that they were running late, but clearly not that late. He strode over, adjusting his cap and grinning widely. “Hey!” he shouted over the noise, waving a hand above his head as he neared them. “Nice. Evergreen. How many times have you gotten stuck already?” he asked with a loud laugh and a shake of his head. The costume idea had been a joke, his friend had said, but Hyunmin was glad they’d actually gone through with it in the end - it was comedy gold, in his opinion.
“I didn’t realise you were so good at art, honestly,” he said, jumping straight into conversation without a second thought. He rambled on, drink in hand, for a good fifteen minutes about old times, inside jokes, what he’d done that day - it wasn’t until he caught sight of the confusion in the person’s eyes that he realised that actually, this wasn’t who he thought it was. “Wait-,” he said, eyes widening slightly as he leaned down a little, squinting. “You’re not- oh. Wow. Alright, maybe I’m drunker than I thought already,” he said, pulling back and giving the girl he was face to face with a sheepish grin.

She appreciated the thought - with everything that had happened lately, no doubt she needed a night to unwind. But the universe had never been that kind, and now drinking was impossible. “I’m good, really. I’ll hold one for you, but they’re all yours.”
parkhyunmin:
“Fine, you win,” Hyunmin replied with a sigh, but there was a smile on his face all the same. She clearly had her reasons for staying teetotal, but he wasn’t going to pry. He drank one of the drinks straight down, putting the empty glass on the bar with a small grimace before looking back to Ginny. “So, what shall we do? Mingle? People watch?” he asked her, pushing one hand into his pocket as his eyes scanned the crowd around them.

feidavenport:
Of course she would find Ash Ketchum before she found anybody else. She considered this a good omen, as well as a nice nostalgic callback to her days wearing Pikachu scrubs - when she was a nurse at a much less pretentious school. Her fears (while not entirely eradicated) were lifted a little, and she smiled as she clinked her glass with his.
At first she thought he was telling her his name, but then she recognized the term. In Mandarin, it was gānbēi, which was similar enough for her to understand. Proud of herself for that, she beamed and countered with “bottoms up!” and after she took a drink, “we can totally come back for the champagne bottle later. I’m Fei, by the way. And I need to tell you how close I was to dressing like a pokeball tonight. So close.”
parkhyunmin:
A wide smile spread across Hyunmin’s face as she countered his ‘cheers’, and he took a swig from his own glass as she did. “I’m Hyunmin. You can call me Min though, if you want,” he replied with a warm smile, dipping into a quick bow before leaning his elbows on the counter. An overly dramatic groan escaped his mouth then, hand moving up to meet his forehead in mock exasperation. “Why didn’t you?” he asked incredulously, holding up his prop. “A human sized pokeball would have been so much cooler than this. Or Pikachu. You could have come as Pikachu,” he rambled, picking up a napkin from the bar and fiddling with it as his mind wandered through all the possibilities before he looked across at her once again, finally looking down at her outfit properly. “But instead you’re the golden snitch, right?” he said, grinning as he examined her costume.

“I never said I didn’t trust you…it’s just, I went in there alone and it was a bad idea.” She was wondering just how many drinks he had already. She giggled at his snacks and thought how much sense it made that he was prepared. “No one can ever say you’re never prepared, you’re definitely who I want to be around if disaster strikes.” With him showing her all his goodies she knew she wouldn’t be able to resist going in. “Fine, let’s do it, I feel secure enough since you brought food, I’m definitely no fun if I’m hungry.” She thought how she needed to catch up with him since she hadn’t had much to drink yet. She started to walk in and looked over at him hoping he wouldn’t end up disappearing on her. “Don’t go off without me, I don’t have any snacks to keep from starving.” The lightness in her voice might of showed she was joking but part of her was serious. “I’m ready to see how good you are at this.”
parkhyunmin:
“Well I’m feeling a severe lack of trust here thanks to your reluctance,” Hyunmin replied with a shake of his head, linking his arm through hers. “You have me this time. I’ll fight off any leaves that try and get you,” he added with a smirk, and a laugh as he tugged her ever closer to the gap in the tall hedges that marked the entrance. “Oh, I have a whole plan laid out for any kind of disaster. Tornado, zombie apocalypse, you name it.” His grin said he was joking, but in reality, he actually did have it all planned out. Escape routes, best places to shelter. Everything. When she finally relented and agreed, he let out a small whoop of victory, taking out his hipflask and having a swig before holding it out to her in offering. “I won’t leave you behind, don’t worry. I could eat all these snacks by myself but I need to watch my figure,” he teased, running a hand across his stomach and patting it lightly, chuckling. “Let’s go,” he said, excitement etched on his features as he bounded off instantly.

“Oh come on,” Hyunmin replied with exasperation, rolling his eyes, but a small smirk was playing at the corner of his mouth. “It’s a party. Just have one,” he insisted, holding out the drink that he’d already ordered for her. If he had to drink them both, he absolutely would, but he’d rather not walk around with a drink in each hand all night.

Hyunmin was always up for a party, no matter what kind. Dressed up as his favourite character from his childhood, he had strode into the Danse Macabre ready to see where the night took him. Squeezing himself into the first gap he spotted at the bar, he ordered himself a drink, poké ball clutched tightly in his hand. There was no way he was going to lose his prop - it was going to be his icebreaker for the evening.
As he reached into his pocket to pull out his wallet, the bartender waved a hand dismissively in his direction. With a confused look on his face, he watched them point to the space next to him, just as a voice piped up. Glancing over, he came face to face with a woman, smirking up at him. “The cheapest, actually. I should have gone for a bottle of champagne instead,” he replied, a grin spreading across his face. “Thanks for the drink,” he added, picking up his glass and clinking it against her own. “Geonbae,” he said, smiling warmly at her.
who: everyone @srphq-starters where: the danse macabre what: fei attempts to press the restart button on her mess of a life
It had been almost two months at this point since Fei’s life had imploded. She’d been living in a sad little Airbnb since she’d been kicked out of her home, and only went to work and back, avoiding eye contact with literally everyone. But she wasn’t thinking about that, tonight. She was dressed in what was somehow the coolest and nerdiest costume she’d ever seen (a rather glitzy Golden Snitch), and she was determined to have fun, and move on, and not think about Nate, or about Lachlan, or about any of her own terrible choices.
So she left her sad little Airbnb and didn’t look back. The streetlamps reflected off of her costume and drew more attention than she’d allowed herself to attract for months. It was uncomfortable, honestly, but everything worth doing often was. When she arrived at the Danse Macabre - the name always getting the spooky orchestral music stuck in her head - she fit in rather well. Everyone looked about as wild as she did, and if anyone was looking at her now, it was because she looked great. And not because they’d heard the rumors.
Like most people, she made a beeline for the bar, and decided the best course of action for re-entering society was to do a good deed. So she told the bartender she’d pay for whatever the person next to her was ordering. Then, thinking about it, she smirked at them. “You didn’t happen to order the most expensive thing on the menu or anything, did you?”

“Oh come on, it’ll be fun!” Hyunmin whined, tugging Taylor in the direction of the hay maze. He was confident that he’d be able to implement his classic right-hand rule trick and get them out of the maze in record time. “Why don’t you trust me? Besides, if we get stuck in there, I have supplies.” Digging his hands into his pockets, he pulled out an array of snacks alongside a hipflask. He may be impulsive, and do near enough everything on a whim, but he always made sure he was prepared. The plentiful supply of snacks in the different pockets of his coat were maintained no matter what - he’d never go hungry if his adventures took him to someplace he couldn’t easily return from. Waggling his eyebrows at her, he grinned widely as they reached the maze’s entrance. “Are you ready or what?” He was already a little intoxicated at this point, so even if Taylor backed out, he was going to conquer that maze regardless.

She was just as good at reading people as he seemed to be with her and she was sure that there was more to it, but she wasn’t going to pry. “I understand, Salem has never been the right environment for me so I left.” She shrugged, “I found the right environment for myself, but I guess this place really called me back because here I am.” She joked about it but she couldn’t deny that she wasn’t hating being home anymore just hated the why she was home. “I am! What do you do for work? I do feature films, mostly. Nothing crazy.” She never wanted to make a big deal out of it, especially not in her home town. She liked the animosity she held in this town. No one running up to her everyone leaving her alone and letting her live her life.
parkhyunmin:
“It’s obviously got a strong pull,” Hyunmin mused, a smile on his face as he leaned against the bar beside him. “Are you planning on moving back to California, or is Salem staying home for the foreseeable future?” he asked her. He wasn’t entirely sure why she disliked the place so much, but he restrained himself from probing her. If he’d had a few more drinks in him, he might well have toed the line to see how much he could find out, but for now he was content to skim the topic. “That’s pretty cool. Are you going to give me any titles or am I going to have to google you to find out?” he teased, grinning at her. Rolling up his sleeve slightly, he held an arm out towards her. “Tattoo artist. I did that one myself,” he said, pointing out the tattoo, before tugging his shirt back into place.

Credit needs to be given to the tour guide because as much as Jude doesn’t believe the stories the guy’s conviction truly sells it. There’s excited chattered among the group with regards to the next house on the tour, another old home Jude’s biked past numerous times. “You’re right…” he didn’t want to laugh at this but given the theatrics from their tour guide it already put Jude in a silly mood. “I could pull in any ghost story I’ve heard over the years and put a spin on it. For it to fit into Salem’s history.” Jude drank the rest of his cider, it more cold than warm by this point. “All my life actually. Got away for a couple years but that’s about it.” He looked at him and asked, “Where are you from?”
parkhyunmin:
A snigger escaped Hyunmin’s lips, drawing a look from one of the tourists. He quickly concealed his mirth, scratching at the back of his neck as he looked down at his feet for a moment, until the woman’s gaze had returned to the tour guide. “I think you should start your own tours. Get yourself a big hat too,” he quipped, a smirk flitting across his face, voice low. “That’s cool. I wish I’d grown up in a town like this, honestly,” he replied, taking in their surroundings - scenic, bustling, full of history. “I’m from Busan, in South Korea. It’s a great place, but- I don’t know. I’ve always preferred smaller cities, like this,” he told the other male, with a shrug. The area of Busan he’d grown up in had been one of wealth, but all the money in the world hadn’t made it feel homely to him. “I prefer it here, that’s for sure,” he finished with a small smile.
