Asexual rant because something about the previous post bothered me.

Split attraction model isn't just for the aro/ace communities. It was created by the asexual community but we strongly believe everyone should deconstruct their attraction with it.

Split attraction model isn't just about romantic and sexual attraction. It's aesthetic attraction. It's platonic attraction. It's Queer Platonic Relationships. It's crushs vs squishes.

That meme of "I don't know if I want to be them, befriend them, or fuck them" is the split attraction model.

It's about the thousands of ways you can be attracted to someone from "Oh, you're pretty, I want to stare at you all day" to "Oh you're hot, let's have sex"

It's about how butterflies in the stomach isn't always about love and crushes.

Split attraction model is about how society takes all of these experiences and lumps them together, lumping them into one. It's about understanding that feeling strong attraction doesn't always mean you want a relationship with someone, and assuming that causes horribly unhealthy relationships that don't last and ruins beautiful possible friendships.

It started with the asexual community separating romantic and sexual attraction. The aromantic community really helped expand it with platonic attraction and queer platonic relationships.

But ultimately split attraction model is about how attraction is weird, and there's thousands of words to describe how we connect with humans, and lumping them all into one does a huge disservice to the human experience and really erases the totality of how we relate to people.

It's really like art in that way. Truly beautiful. Split attraction model is about human connection, and it's not so clean cut as romantic vs sexual attraction. It's about how the human connection is truly fucking weird and taking a moment to just revel in it is truly freeing.
