there's one thing i always think about that really shows other trans people do not think about how disproportionately trans women are targeted. and that's the "accidentally gender-affirming bigot" joke.

this joke has been made by many, many trans men, transmascs, and other trans people who do not experience transmisogyny. it's been made a lot because the interaction that sets it up happens all the time. it is the typical modus operandi for transphobes.

they will go on any page that they see has a trans person, and they will comment or otherwise say: "you'll never be a real woman."

and then, trans people who are not the target of this joke will get to have a laugh about it. because this is now an Accidentally Gender-Affirming Bigot! how funny! because of course i wasn't trying to be a woman, and don't you see how funny it is that this ignorant bigot got it so wrong?

and then it goes on existing as a funny joke about the Accidentally Gender-Affirming Bigot, except the trans people who are not the target of it don't actually reflect on why someone would say this to them. they don't think about the fact that the majority of transphobia explicitly targets trans women as fake women and predatory pretenders. the people who think the Accidentally Gender-Affirming Bigot is a funny display of ignorance don't think about why it's so funny to them that they were mistaken for and insulted as if they were one of the most vulnerable women in their community. they laugh about it and move on.

this same bigot will go on to say this about every trans woman they see online. these trans women do not get the fun of making an Epic Joke about it. and the bigot does not care that people who were mistakenly hit by that bigotry think it's funny. the bigot cares about targeting trans women.

I think you should mention isuggestforcemasc getting termed too? not to say you need to stop talking or speak less about the harrassment and terms transfems have been and are facing or to make this about men. but from what i know isuggestforcemasc was a positive voice in the community as well, so speaking up about that account as well seems decently important, to me atleast

No, no, you're right, I should mention the POS fucker that was involved in harassing transfems for talking about transmisogyny who deactivated his blog when one of his targets got termed and he started facing substantial criticism!

It's actually really important I mention him because that's a great example of the exact type of person I was talking about. He was so positive, largely for transmasc folks and reblogged many transmasc folks and just occasionally went off about how some random transfem was a bitch for talking about transmisogyny.

He didn't get terminated though. As far as I know, he deactivated because people pointed out his hand in isuggestforcefem getting termed and that hurt his feelings.

In an attempt to prove they were not transmisogynistic, one of the same callout blogs targeting isuggestforcefem also called out isuggestforcemasc too, for different reasons, but it was not mentioned as the reason for deactivation, nor did it lead to him getting termed.

So yeah, great example, thanks for bringing it up, hope you find better community in the future. 👍

There's a peculiarly tumblr* sort of argument I've seen a few times lately where basically someone goes "This bad thing is being framed and talked about in untrue ways. These false perceptions are then rhetorically weaponised against trans women" and is met with the response "Oh so you think that this bad thing is good actually? Aaaand that it's innately tied to transfemininity?? Heh, sounds like you're the real transmisogynist here. Also you're the exact sort of evil trans women people talk about btw".

It turns out a lot of active transmisogynists enjoy having various convenient pejoratives they can throw at trans women who annoy them, and they get mad if someone tries to take them away. Like if you criticise the way that people say dumb things about Pedophilia or online Fascism that allow them to casually call trans women Nazi Pedophiles through pure vibes association, a lot of responses boils down to "You're only saying that because Nazi Pedo Trannies are a big problem and you're one of them"

*as in that specific flavour of using Left-Liberal logic and language to convey a fundamentally reactionary viewpoint
