Thinking about the three days that followed after Andarna left, and though my heart really broke for Violet, I also realize how stressed Xaden must’ve been. I’m sure he would’ve stayed with her all day if it weren’t for duties he couldn’t set aside, but the poor man must’ve gone around trying to make sure there wasn’t a single minute where Violet was left alone.

Violet: *crying endlessly, won't speak, won't eat, won't get out of bed*

Xaden: *thinks* Okay, so Brennan has the morning shift. He can stay with her until noon, then I'll have to pull each one of Vi's squad into our room around lunch. Is she even gonna eat today? It would be incredible if he goes from being the resident codex boy into Dain fuck it Aetos in the next book. While everyone tries to bubble wrap Violet to keep her alive after their Duke and shadow wielder disappeared overnight, Dain would become the enabler. He'll be the go big or go home type of friend. Violet has a bad idea? He can make it worse. I want them both to unleash all the chaos they suppressed when they were trying to be the well-behaved kids of General Sorrengail and Colonel Aetos. They're the products of questionable parenting, dragged into a war they didn't ask for, and by God are they about to make it everyone else's problem.

And as for Sloane, I can totally see Violet warning Dain about a slow death when Xaden returns, and she would mess with his rizz at every opportunity. Just when he tries to turn on the charm, she’ll be right behind him mouthing “RUN” to Sloane. But seriously, she'll be so happy for him because Sloane is a firecracker in her own right and Violet knows how much Dain needs that in his life.

I'm convinced everyone must've thought Garrick and Xaden were a couple

Garrick: nearly dies Xaden: You absolute idiot. What were you thinking? Garrick: Honey bear, you were the one who said be nice Xaden: That doesn't mean eat everything they offer you!

Their banter always sounds like two people who’ve raised children together and fought in three wars side-by-side. I love how no one in the rebellion bats an eye.
