Tiffany Carter is one of my the most lovely people I have ever met. I aspire to be half as awesome and vivacious as she is. Also, she drank myself and Delicia Pastiche under the table. She is a total bosslady.
Tumblr media
As I mentioned on my Tumblr feed recently, I had the honour of meeting burlesque legend Tiffany Carter recently at the Montreal Burlesque Festival in August/11 while there to shoot the weekend’s festivities for the festival. A true classic burlesque beauty, seeing her perform today is an experience not to be missed. She brings class and sophistication to the stage and can still out-shimmy and -shake the new generation of performers.

Helen of Tronna may be a new name, but you can expect the same kind of saucy antics at this birthday show that you’ve come to love over the past five years.  Join us Sunday, 16th of March at the Lula Lounge (1585 Dundas W, just west of Dufferin) for a night of bands, bells, booze and burlesque!
Featuring burlesque performances from: Loretta Jean (Nerd Girl Burlesque) Delicia Pastiche (Nerd Girl Burlesque) Bianca Boom Boom
With the Canadian debut of Florence of A’Labia (Super Happy Funtime Burlesque) Gala Delicious (Tickled Fancy Burlesque)
Plus feats of mentalism from Mysterion the Mind-Reader
Musical guests High Heels Lo Fi Pavlov’s Dogs Handbell Ensemble
Hosted by yours truly!
Tickets are $20 at the door, or $15 in advance at Brown Paper Tickets.  And, because I love ya so much, Tumblr, you can get an extra $3 off advance tickets by using the passcode “MITTENS” (in honour of our guests from that place what looks like a mitten).
Doors open at 8, and we’ll be kicking things off at 9.  Come buy me a drink and see what happens!

Where are you from originally?
I’m from New York
How and when did you first become Scotty the Blue Bunny?
Well.  . after many years of experimenting with costumes and drag in the NYC nightclub scene, I officially chart my origin in 1996 - my first national tour with the Bindlestiff Family Circus out of Brooklyn, NY.
How long have you lived in Berlin and how come you moved here?
I moved here in October 2012 - so I just celebrated one year.
Well, basically I moved to Berlin because Germany had the easiest option for a single gay guy over 45 who dresses like a bunny for a living. I had always fantasized about living abroad and had the opportunity to lay down roots in San Francisco or make the move just over one year ago. That easy option turned into quite a bureaucratic journey and organizational challenge, but well worth it. I couldn’t have done it without the help of the fabulous people already living here and one amazing attorney. I don’t think I’ve ever been in such a hopeful, ignorant or vulnerable situation before.
I just wanted to make something out of being a Bunny for 18 years. In the states there really isn’t a market for longer contracts and I was getting tired of putting my career together week by week. Moving to Berlin has allowed me to work longer contracts in some amazing shows like La Clique at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. I don’t think I would have been able to do that if I continued on in San Francisco. Really, I was ready to make a decision to quit performing, or give it one last big shot.
I think as a performer you have to travel. It’s all about new audiences and living in Berlin you can reach so many audiences in so many different countries in all different kinds of productions. It’s almost like moving here made it ok to be an artist. Conversations about it have a legitimacy that they just didn’t have in the States. It’s been as incredibly informative and inspiring as it has been challenging. I’ve also been inspired to move ahead with some studio art and have begun some photography projects of my own and a new solo show. It’s been a big creative boost. Moving ahead with my art has been deliciously difficult, but completely attached to the immigration process. I wish I’d had the resources to do it earlier, but it seems to have worked out like perfect timing as it is. We’ll see how the second year goes!
What do you enjoy most about performing?
Ha ha… thinking 8 hours and working 2. And when I say thinking - I mean completely  living in my freaked-out head cooking up schemes and then suddenly having to be somewhere and do it.
What are your performances like?
I have no idea.  I leave the house with a rabbit suit, order a shot of tequila when I get to the venue, someone hands me a microphone, and the rest is history.
You’ve performed all over the world, have you got a favourite place to perform?
Anywhere they let me!  Anywhere they ask me back!
You must have a lot of funny stories to tell, anything you would like to share?
Yes there are many, but I’ll just lay them out like headlines: Blind Girl in Front Row!  Man Vomits.  Live Cunilingus! Champagne Bottle Penetration! Swinging from the Ceiling!  I work a lot of parties and clubs and when there is a giant gay rabbit around… people can get unchained!  I have to say that most of my craziest memories of shows are about audience members!  I guess that’s a good thing….?
