The magic of the Unicorn takes it! A close match, between two beautiful contenders, turns into a victory for the medieval-- but worry not, cicada fans! In another seven years a new brood will emerge. Pattern of the Year 2031, perhaps?

The biggest pattern of the tournament is OUT! As magnificent as it is, the BotW Tapestry was not able to defeat that wonder of the animal kingdom, the Tiger.

Well fought, Tapestry, and best of luck to the Tiger in the Finals!

And the last match-up of Round Three was another close one. Both patterns are fine works, full of intricate detail and ornamentation, but there is only room for one in the semifinals-- and the Unicorn will be that one!

As the cats skip off into the firelit night, they'll carry the compliments of their fans with them:

Alas, the worst has finally come for that portent of ill, the Doom Deer-- its own words turned prescient against it. But it will weather the storm, I am sure, with its trademark solemnity.

Well done, Neon Cicada! The Cicada will continue shining (and buzzing) in the semifinals, starting tomorrow!

Doom Deer by pixelstrands

Propaganda: Who doesn't love dark humor? Especially juxtaposed against the most realistic art of a deer I have ever made, looking so calm in the face of inevitable doom.

These two pieces could not be more different-- in color, in style, in aim-- but their battle was close! In the end, the Tapestry took the win, leaving the Rainbow Medallion to spin off into the sunset.
