John J. Brimson, in "Patterns of Evidence: The Exodus"
Tumblr media
As a Tutor in Old Testament, Trinity College, Bristol, and PhD Tutor, Bimson’s has taken part in excavations in Israel and completed a doctoral research on the historicity and setting of the Exodus and Conquest. His book, Redating the Exodus (1978), proposed that the end of the Middle Bronze Age provides the best matching evidence for the biblical Conquest and that the dates assigned to this period should be substantially revised.

The Land of Rameses
Exodus 1:11, says that the Israelite slaves built the store cities of Pithom and Rameses, which leads many scholars to tie the Exodus to the time of Pharaoh Rameses II.
HOWEVER, Genesis 47:11 uses the phrase “the land of Rameses” to describe the place where Jacob and his family settled.  This happened more than a century before the Exodus 1:11 reference.
Using the same logic, must the Genesis reference also be tied to the time of Pharoah Rameses II?

"EXODUS, GODS AND KINGS" Fact or Fiction?
The dramatic feature film "EXODUS, GODS AND KINGS", directed by Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Blade Runner, Prometheus), will be released later this year. It tells the story of defiant leader Moses (Christian Bale) as he rises up against the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses (Joel Edgerton), setting 600,000 slaves on a monumental journey of escape from Egypt and its terrifying cycle of deadly plagues. The story is an interpretation of writing from the Old Testament Book of Exodus.
The Trailer for "EXODUS, GODS AND KINGS" can be seen here: http://youtu.be/1tuaPQdIGdQ
In the documentary film, "PATTERNS OF EVIDENCE: THE EXODUS", also coming later this year, follows Director Timothy P. Mahoney as he takes an in-depth look at the actual history, archeological evidence and views of leading scholars on the subject. The Trailer for "PATTERNS OF EVIDENCE: THE EXODUS" can be seen here: http://youtu.be/2skx69TxLXk
It will be interesting to see what Mr. Scott does with his interpretation of the story. We are certainly looking forward to it. Aren't you?

Israeli archaeologist Ze’ev Herzog represents another side of the debate
“This is what archaeologists have learned from their excavations in the Land of Israel: the Israelites were never in Egypt, did not wander in the desert, did not conquer the land in a military campaign and did not pass it on to the 12 tribes of Israel. Perhaps even harder to swallow is the fact that the united monarchy of David and Solomon, which is described by the Bible as a regional power, was at most a small tribal kingdom.” (Ze'ev Herzog - Ha'aretz Magazine 1999)

Look at your evidence
“I think everybody in the field is biased one way or another. I admit my bias... However, I cannot make up the evidence. I cannot plant it in the ground. I have analyzed it and compared it to the Bible and I see...WOW...it matches exactly... That's science. Look at your evidence and come to a conclusion based on the evidence.”
Bryant Wood, Archaelogist (From the upcoming film Patterns of Evidence: The Exodus
