Conceptual Photography (Project 3) 🌎
- A lot of the objects that I chose to photograph are items that many of us encounter, daily; but that’s exactly the problem that I want to highlight. In recent years, pollution has become a major topic of concern. There are things in my collage that you might not realize are bad for the environment; cars are an obvious one, contributing to air pollution, but household cleaners can be included in this category, as well. Others aren’t so obvious; non-recyclable food containers, fruit stickers, the tube of toothpaste, along with the toothbrush you use are mostly made of plastics that take thousands of years to decompose. Fast-fashion and the production of fake jewelry are also major contributors to the deteriorating health of our earth. 10 million tonnes of clothing are found in land fills, yearly in North America alone (Sun), while the production of fake jewelry pollutes the earth, through land erosion and the dumping of chemicals into natural waters (Kirschner). In my photographs, I used the rule of thirds, and paid attention to the different elements of art (texture, perspective, lines and colour) to help convey the theme of pollution. I also played around with the camera angels, as well as the depth of field to add some variety. The presented images are only a small representation of what is hurting the world we live in. To conclude, I’ve added some links to help you learn more about the small changes that you can make to save our planet.

Still Life (Project 1, Final Submission) 🌱
Glass and Bowl (1st round):
- I was inspired by another photo that I saw on Pinterest and wanted to try something similar. I liked the look of the sunlight passing through the glass, and reflecting the pattern onto the ground, with shadows. I played around with the angle and ended up going with a not-so-high, but higher camera angle. There is some shape with the bowl, as well as with the lid. There are also lines on the ground and with the shadows on the sides. Issues that I had while trying to take the photo was that I did not want my shadow to be in the shot and the lighting was constantly changing, so I kept having to move the objects.
Figurines (1st round):
- I did not mean for this to be one of my photos in the first place; I was walking around my house to try and see if there was anything that I could attempt to make look cool. There is a somewhat shallow depth of field, with the photo mainly focusing on the figurines placed in the front. The different colors contrast against the dark wood cabinet that they were arranged in. It was taken at an eye-level camera angle, not distorting the photo too much. I attempted to play around with the lighting, but I just ended up using overhead lighting. Finally, I had some trouble getting the angles that I wanted, considering how small the cabinet was.
Piano (2nd round):
- I wanted to reuse one of the figurines from my first round of photos and incorporate it into my second round. He is playing an instrument so, I decided to put him on the piano to portray the theme of music. I used the rule of thirds, making him closer to the front, rather than putting him in the back, since he was already very small in comparison to the large piano. Again, I was playing around with the perspective and the depth of the shot. I also used overhead lighting for this photo and there are lines along the keys. I had some trouble with the background, as well as framing it properly and I also had some difficulty with deciding on the camera angle that I wanted to use.
Guitar (3rd round):
- I did have a different shot in mind for this guitar, but it didn’t end up working out. I played around with the placement and got this, instead. I wanted to try and use its uncommon shape and large size to my advantage. The size helped with creating depth in the photo, considering how long it was. I used the rule of thirds, as well as played with the perspective of the photo. There are also lines if you look at the guitar strings, directing your eyes from the front of the guitar to the end. You could say that it was taken at a low angle-shot, considering it was on the floor. I used natural lighting, since there was a window right above the guitar, and it reflected off the walls. Since I couldn’t execute my original idea, I had some trouble trying to find a different way to use the guitar and taking the photo on the floor in a narrow hallway wasn’t the easiest task either.
Lights (3rd round):
- I thought that these lights looked cool, so I tried taking a few different photos. I took one that I really liked, but it didn’t seem to fit this assignment. Like the guitar, the light fixture has an interesting and somewhat unusual shape to them. All of the objects in the back were there unintentionally. There are small pops of color here and there with the green plant, the brown violin, the black piano, and the fruit, in contrast to the crème-colored walls. Again, I used the rule of thirds and the photo was taken at eye level. I didn’t want to turn the lights on, since they had yellow bulbs, so I kept those off and used natural lighting, instead. I had some trouble with this photo because I didn’t really have a vision in mind, so I experimented with what I had.

Pandemic Pick-Me-Ups (#2):
Movie nights aren't so new in my household, but we've been having more and more of them, as the months go on. Again, like the books, these are only a few of the movies that my family and I have enjoyed, over the course of quarantine. Not only few classics, but also, some family favorites <3

Pandemic Pick-Me-Ups (#1):
The pandemic and the boredom that comes with it, has allowed me to explore different interests and/or activities to occupy myself with; one of them being reading books. I used to hate reading, so this was quite the change for me (I'm not mad at it though). Those are only a few of the books that I've gone through, so far while in quarantine. If you have any recommendations, feel free to comment them down below :)
