Brown hair that was tied back with a shining purplish hairband swayed as the girl turned to look at the man. She noted that he was respectful and seemingly friendly but she knew better than to outright trust someone without due cause. Brown eyes slightly narrowed as she studied him. She ended up shrugging a moment later however, “My sense of direction sucks. Doesn’t surprise me in the least. I get it from my dad. Such is life I’m afraid.”

“      that’s  quite  unfortunate  ,    ”     he  held  back  a  laugh  ,    though  a  look  of  subtle  amusement  would  linger  on  his  face  ;   the  girl’s  response  was  certainly  unlike  anything  he  had  expected.    and  given  the  way  she  seemed  so  CALM  and  NATURAL  while  in  his  presence  ----  the  wizard  could  only  assume  she  had  come  from  far   ,   far  away.     he  did  ;   however   ,   take  note  of  her  narrowed  gaze.    perhaps  ,   an  OFFER  of  aid  might  be  a  good  place  to  start.      and  so  ,    with  a  slight  dip  of  his  head :   “     i  can  be  of  some  use  ,   if  you’d  like.    where  are  you  off  to  ,   anyway ?    ”

BLOOD oozed through canines the colour of saltwater pearls as they parted in what might have been a growl. But move the great BEAST did not. Coiled into a winding RIVER amidst the ample green of wild vegetation, he watched the wizard through keen eyes made turbulent with pain && a feral sense of mistrust.     && then——!!

More suddenly than not, the serpent vanished. Rippling scales && horns && claws all gave way to a BOY left sitting in the bloodstained grass. Staring up at the elder with a face almost stubborn in its absence of expression. Shorn locks swaying a bruising shadow against the ivory of his cheek && brilliant, jade irises roiling beneath the wizard’s gaze.

the  transformation   ,    albeit  SUDDEN   ,     did  not  come  to  as  much  of  a  surprise  to  the  wizard  as  one  would  have  expected.     a  calm  gaze  accompanied  by  a  steady  hand  -----  howl  knew  better  than  to  ACT  during  the  other’s  wild  episode.      it  was  better  this  way   after  all   ,    the  spirit  now  hidden  away  within  a  child’s  body.       at  least   ,    with  the  current  predicament    ,    howl  might  even  find  it  in  him  to  be  GENTLE  ;    nurturing   ,   even   ,    when  it  came  to  helping  this  ....  bloody  creature.

“     that’s  more  like  it  ,    ”    a  good-humored  murmur   as  the  wizard  shifts  forward  in  an  ATTEMPT  to  lay  his  palm  flat  on  the  boy’s  forehead   ;   a  mere  TEST  of  his  aura  to  see  if  he  was  still  capable  of  living  past  the  next  five  minutes.      and  given  the  other’s  hostile  demeanor   ,    howl  would  find  it  necessary  to  appear  VULNERABLE   -----  his  other  hand  raised  in  surrender  ,   chin  dipped  into  a  gracious  bow  and  all.      “     i’m  the  wizard  pendragon.    ”    an  added  smirk  beneath  his  shaggy  blond  locks.     “    but  you  make  refer  to  me  as  howl.    now  before  you  keel  over  ----  may  i  approach  you ?    ”

Sophie rolled her eyes, swaying as she swept the floor around him.

“You seem in better spirits…” She chided with a faint smile, thinking back to the ill temper that he’d had when he’d stormed in some time ago as she skirted around him. Well he HAD gone immediately for the bath, perhaps he’d simply washed the anger away; for all she knew wizards could do such things.

Not once did she think it was because of her as she finally ushered the dust and dirt that she’d been chasing around the room out into the alley he liked to throw his bits and baubles in.

“     well  i  didn’t  realize  i  was  in  such  POOR  spirits  to  begin  with  ,    love.    ”      an  attempt  at  playing  nonchalant  ,    despite  him  being  familiar  with  his  own  bad  habits.     he  pities  the  cleaning  witch  of  course  ,    along  with  his  friends  and  other  castle  inhabitants  ;     who  could  ever  blame  them  for  wanting  to  leave  home  when  he  was  at  his  worst ?       but  with  an  affable  smile  and  a  slight  skip  to  his  step   ----   the  wizard  would  move  forward   ,   a  hand  gently  placed  upon  the  woman’s  broom  to  keep  it  still.     his  eyes  ---  warm  and  apologetic  ----  seems  to  say  it  all  before  he  could  fully  form  the  words  on  his  tongue.         “      i  shouldn’t  have  stormed  off  like  that  and  leave  you  with  such  a  mess.     ”      a  tilt  of  the  head   ,    as  he  leans  down  closer  to  her  ;    practically  EXPECTING  her  to  instantly  give-in.      “      could  you  ever  forgive  me ?     ”

“      you’re  making  a  scene  ,   love  ,    ”      he  was  well  aware  of  the  FALSITY   behind  the  shopkeeper’s  assumptions  and  yet  here  he  was  ----   a  hand  clasped  comfortably  on  the  young  woman’s  shoulder  as  a  slow  and  ever-so-loving  smile  begins  to  form  on  his  lips.       whatever  issues  they  had  with  each  other   ,    howl  saw  it  to  be  rather  UNNECESSARY  to  inform  any  of  the  public  about  it    -----  whether  it  be  correcting  a  simple  seller  or  not.       and  besides   -----  ENGAGED  was  such  a  meaningless  term  nowadays.     if  her  dear  fiance  wasn’t  present   ,     then  howl  pendragon  himself  should  have  full  reins  to  keep  her  out  of  trouble   ,   no ?    

the  shopkeeper   ,    while  smiling  apologetically  after  having  been  scolded  ,    seems  to  agree. 

“       now   then  ,   ”       his  gaze  would  focus  towards  the  front  as  he  hands  the  payment  to  the  herb  seller   -----  winking  at  the  old  man   ,    before  he’d  turn  his  attention  back  onto  the  woman  beside  him.      some  things  never  change   ,   evidently.      “     if  you  behave   ,   maybe  i’ll  consider  rewarding  you  tonight.     ”
