Hookfang being so careful with everyone other than Snotlout is so important. He’s a beast of a dragon, he literally goes into fights blazing without a plan. He respects strength first.

Most humans are delicate little things that he has to handle with the kiddy gloves on. He’s cautious with the twins, gentle with Hiccup, respectful with Astrid, careful with Fishlegs.

Snotlout however is his viking and he’s a good one. Made of tougher stuff or whatever. He can handle a little roughhousing. He can handle Hookfang catching fire every once in a while, he can handle being scooped and thrown and shaken, he can handle a chomp or two. More than “handle” honestly, he likes it, because he’s the same genre of feral-for-action.

We know Snotlout does, but the fact Hookfang also sees them as equals (despite all their fighting) is very dear to me

HTTYD LA Thoughts and Opinions

Okay so, i’m not a HTTYD blog so no one asked for my opinion on the Live Action adaptation of it, but, until now i had just been texting my friend about them, i decided i wanted to post them on here and get them all laid out and compiled since there’s so much negativity on here. Forewarning, this is probably going to be lengthy

For starters- I am 22 and had not watched anything httyd themed until last summer, my best friend is obsessed and it’s her favourite franchise of all time, plus we’re going to epic this year so i decided to binge the movies and tv shows last summer to get all caught up and know the lore. It was one of those things i put off as i knew i would hyper-fixate on it.

Now, i hadn’t seen anything about the LA version on it until i had finished the marathon, which means the movie had already wrapped and everything by the time i even knew about it. I just happened to see where the guy playing Snotlout had posted about it because around the same time i watch a Netflix show called Bodies (which is a fantastic show and i highly recommend) which he is in. I looked into it a bit and wasn’t thrilled about it. I don’t love live action remakes of already perfectly fine animated movies.

Now if you ask anyone in my personal life, they will tell you that i am a HUGE movie watcher, i’ll watch just about anything and everything. So even tho i don’t like live action remakes, 9 times out of 10 im going to watch them. Now i know, by watching them, i am then giving the movie money, which then makes hollywood think that live actions are a great idea, i know, not the smartest i’m aware.

Some live actions are great, Alice in Wonderland, The Little Mermaid, and hell i enjoyed the Beauty and the Beast movie. Do i think they’re better than the animated ones, absolutely not. Animation as a medium i think is one of the superior mediums, personally my favourite. Some live actions suck, Snow white for instance, The only redeemable factor of that movie is my girl Rachel Zegler.

Do i think this HTTYD live action movie is going to be good, maybe, the trailers aren’t horrible, im extremely tired of just seeing Hiccup and Astrid promo for the most part (i know they’re the main focus of the movie and stuff but im also just hoping for some promo for the other characters in the main group). There is not a cell in my body that thinks this movie will be better than the OG but no one believes that.

One of the main reasons why i’m more so okay, well i wouldn’t say okay with it, more like…. settling with it, is the cast and director. Having the director of the animated movies direct the LA is genius. I’ve seen people saying that Universal was gonna do it and he wanted to make sure it was done right, i’ve heard others say that Dean has said it is a cash grab and whatever, idk. The cast however, seems to be super thrilled and loved filming it. I follow them all on instagram and i’m pretty excited to see promo (interviews and such) start with the whole cast, but i love watching bts stuff.

I think this movie will be a fun watch, i’ve seen some good reviews of it, i’m watching it with my friend the weekend after it comes out and i’m, believe it or not, pretty excited to see it. Then again, i never go the chance to see the og in theatre, so it could just be that. Do i think it’ll do good in box office, yes. I don’t think it’ll be a record breaking number, but the movie has two pretty known actors, Gerard Butler is a big actor, everyone has pretty much watched a movie he’s been in, and Mason Thames is popular among the younger crowd (speaking of popular, i have a… prediction i suppose, that people are going to come out with a likeness toward snotlouts actor, dudes got that tired eye thing going on that’s right up peoples alley, and by people i mean me) so i think it’ll do decent, i mean obviously its gotten a good feedback and they’re confident as they’ve already announced the second movie.

This post is getting really long so imma cut it here, do i think the movie should exist, no. Am i looking forward to it, a little but like i mentioned above, could just be because i never got to see the og in theatre. The changes in the movie don’t really matter all the much in my opinion, so astrid’s not white and blonde? so what? I will say, Dean explaining that in this version of Berk, it’s full of the best dragon fighters from around the world, i really liked. The twins aren’t blonde? So? none of those traits are a integral part of the story, changing them doesn’t change the story.

I also, don’t have a problem with the cast, like at all. I think that they’re gonna do great. I couldn’t care less about the cast of movies when how characters look isn’t integral to the story itself. I’m kinda interested to see how they make the characters their own.

I know people are upset about it, but i’ve been seeing people say that they’re ruining the franchise. Lets me honest here, if a live action adaptation ruins an animated movie for you, that’s a little ridiculous. The two can coexist. This movie shouldn’t ruin a 3 movie + tv show franchise for you.

Shew, that was a lot, i don’t really expect anyone to read through this entire thing, and idk if i even make sense in this, but i wanted to type it all out anyway.
