Crystal Gem Sprites
I had planned on starting a Patreon focused on Blender tutorials but I started school recently and I just haven’t had the time for it.
My first project was going to be rendering crystal sprites but I never got the chance to finish it (all the component parts are done. I just have to edit them together)
These are some of the examples I had made using the technique. I plan to get the tutorial done eventually – and I upload the source file (and the models for these sprites) when I get to it!

Note
Thanks for this
Well I always struggle on making the bodies look... normal. They’re either too long, too short, too wide or too long. Or the limbs don’t even look like limbs. Hands look awful. Stuff like that haha!
Dear Anon,
Because everyone has its style I don’t want you to think that what I drew is what you have to do but I sure have few tips for you!
Tumblr media
So in my drawings I ALWAYS sketch the anatomy first and after that everything got very easy!
I usually start with the head (2) and then I draw the chest (3)and the hips and I link everything with the bust and neck (4).
Here for me starts the hard part, the legs. For me is very difficult to link them to the waist so what I do is to draw a strange pair of pants that I use to find the place to position the legs (5), in this way no leg is bigger and less solid than the other one.
After that I draw arms (6) and here we have a full body in your own style (7).
Now let’s talk about what you HAVE to do for a proportionate body.
Tumblr media
No matter what your style is there are some rules, when the character is relaxed the elbows will always be at the same level of the waistline and the wrists will always be at the level of the pubis area (9). This tip gives you automatically the lenght of the arms.
This trick works with every kind of character!

Except for the ones without arms…
If you are afraid to draw too short legs in a shapely body just find the belly button of your characters and think that it’s always better if the legs are longer than the upper part of the body (10).
In (10.1) my body is a kind of extreme but as you can see in (10.2) the trick works even with a normal body (it works even with men (10.3)).
Anyway, if the arms one is a rule, the legs’ lenght can change from style to style to find a more interesting and appealing styles and shapes.

Now let’s draw something different form a relaxed body.
Tumblr media
In imagine (11) I drew a quick sketck but without my body structure I just realized that my arm is way too long, no prob, I’ll keep that as a base and I will draw the right anatomy on that.
On (12) I drew the elbows and the wirsts first, once I understood where I want them I just have to link them with lines.
My tip for you in this case is to draw first joints and then link them.
If you don’t really know where to put the joints just think that there’s not much difference of lenght between the upper part of the arm and the other (13)(14) and try to imagine the arm you drew relaxed to visualize if every joint would match with their reference points.
Tumblr media
Sadly for hands and feet I don’t have many tricks but a thing that helps me a lot is to know that in a hand there’s, on the little finger’s side, a line that doesn’t break when it reaches the arm, while in the other side, because of the thumb it just breaks, like the thumb is separate from the rest of the hand (16).
Also, If you look at your hands you will see that if you open your fingers wide they will form an arc and when they are close they have a pointy shape with the middle finger as peak (16).
Tumblr media
For feet is the same, it is linear on the little toe side and it breaks in the other, you can also find the toes by drawing the arc. (17)
For the face just remember that the head it’s not just a face, it’s also cranium.
It’s the cranium that gives the depht to your head and that the neck it’s always linked to the cranium and not to the center of the face. (18.1)
I think I have no more tips for you. I apologize for my poor english and if you want more specific tips just ask!
I hope this will help you a bit!
