Decided that hey, maybe this is a good opportunity to reblog some of my own art in the queue, why not, right

I... am a little sad at how quickly I reached 2022. I knew I drew less in 2023 than before but I expected a little more than that. 2024 is shaping up to be similar, if not even slower. I still technically haven't done anything for April.

And, like, I know, I know that it's not a significantly terrible thing to draw less frequently some years than others. Stuff happens. I spent 4 months on a cross stitch. I've been playing more games this year than previous years AND finally doing more stuff to make my home homier. There's only so much time and it's a balancing act, it's not a moral failing to draw less often.

But I want to draw more. I miss it, but my brain just doesn't latch onto it the same. Idk. I'm not sure what the point of this post is at this point, honestly, except I'm maybe a little sad and maybe I want to try to get back into drawing more often again.

As a wheelchair user I'm trying to reframe my language for "being in the way."

"I'm in the way," "I can't fit," and "I can't go there," is becoming "there's not enough space," "the walkway is too narrow," and "that place isn't accessible."

It's a small change, but to me it feels as if I'm redirecting blame from myself to the people that made these places inaccessible in the first place. I don't want people to just think that they're helping me, I want them to think that they're making up for someone else's wrongdoing. I want them to remember every time I've needed help as something someone else caused.

One day I'll have some COOL and AWESOME ✨project✨ which I'll be enthusiastic to do even completely alone even without borrowing outside enthusiasm and I will LOVE to make it and I wont drop it within a day and people will be exited about it and we all will have a lot of fun together

So I've been making good progress, I think. On my first shopping trip for supplies I got a lead-testing kit because these trunks tend to use lead paint, and this one follows the trend. I was expecting it, though, and I got protective gear, so I'll just be making sure I actually use it.

Second pass on the dome and wondering why on earth they painted it the way they did.

Worked on the front today and maybe I can see why, the tin here is in worse shape, but there are solutions that aren't draping the entire thing in a single shade of an unattractive brown.

In the meantime, I've tried to get an idea of when/where trunks in this style were made, but I haven't been able to find any similar. Generally a lot of the barrel-top trunks with embossed tin have the wooden slats running perpendicular. The only ones I've found with the slats arranged even close to this one are wooden with no embossed tin. I might find something eventually though.

So YEARS ago I bought this humpback steamer for $65, because despite the absolutely horrendous paint job someone butchered it with, I knew what embossed tin steamer trunks SHOULD look like

But I didn't have the space to do anything about it until my new apartment with my own garage. So I finally got some paint stripper and started stripping wolf whistle today.

Whoever painted it is a criminal, because even this early, still needing a second pass and covered in residue, it's already looking so much better:

It's going to take a while just to get the paint fully removed, and then I'll have to see what kind of shape it's in in regards to rust and what I want to do to restore it, but oh man, I feel like no matter what I do it's going to turn out so much better than it was before.
