The bed is too small.

A single twin bed for three players is frankly a little ridiculous. They’ve got two other beds upstairs, reserved for Scott and Etho but still perfectly usable. None of them move towards the ladder.

Pearl lays down first, she always ends up in between and beneath the two of them by default just based on height. Gem next, tucking herself in to Pearl’s right side and mumbling some complaint about how Pearl is too bony. Pearl tells her she can go find another pillow if she’s going to whine about it, and Gem huffs and goes silent. Grian curls up to her left, passing his glasses over her so Gem can put them next to hers on the crafting table serving as a nightstand. Pearl complains that she can’t breathe when Grian wraps an arm around her, holding her like a teddy bear. Grian just sighs and holds her tighter. Villy whines at the base of the bed and Gem shoos him off. There’s no room for him, even if it makes Pearl sad to have to send him away.

At some point in the night, Gem will wake up soaked in sweat (she has always run hot, she is not having nightmares, GeminiTay does not get scared of dreams) and she will desperately press her forehead to Pearl’s unnaturally cold skin. At some point in the night, Pearl will unconsciously shift to curl up, to make herself smaller on the bed, and will find that her limbs are pinned flat and she cannot. At some point in the night, Grian’s eyes will open and he will stare blearily at his teammates, their faces obscured by the dark and his own poor vision.

The bed is too big.

A single twin bed in the ruins of their tower. They really should move somewhere safer, more secret. But the session is over, truce has been called for now. And so they head back to what is now just a monolith of cobblestone and burnt leaves and trampled roses. Those had been Pearl’s roses.

Neither of them feels like getting into bed first. That was always Pearl, even when she complained about being squished. They both stare aimlessly, tensely, at the miraculously intact sheets. Gem bites the bullet and lies down first, head resting on an actual pillow for the first time in weeks. She hates it. It’s plush and soft and not Pearl. Grian reluctantly climbs in next to her, clutching her closely. It’s not the same, they both know it. No matter how much they press together there is something missing. Villy is curled up in his own corner, not even looking their way.

At some point Gem will wake up sweating, soaking the now warm pillow and trembling despite how burning hot she feels. She will blink and find that Grian is staring at her. He hasn’t taken his glasses off. He wants a clear look, in case he loses her too.

There's something about how after weeks of treating Pearl like their attack dog or their weapon, the Villies will probably spend the rest of the series trying to kill people in her memory.

If they can't use her as a cannon then they'll raise her as a banner.

it just hit me that, by the life series average, next week could very well be the finale. but pearl is still on 5 lives.

I respectfully disagree about the villies situation. like, from my perspective, this is generally how grian teams end up working. desert duo, southlanders, bad boys, and whatever you call it from wl. they all followed a similar pattern of friendly teasing and everyone getting in jabs at each other, and villies is no exception. grian got teased a fair bit as well, and all in all I don't see pearl getting treated badly by the villies

see w other players grian tends to be mutually having fun and teasing one another while in the villies it felt a lot more like gem and grian piling onto and excluding pearl. i am not about to argue w people on the internet over minecraft roleplay so think whatever you want but from my a) autistic hence trained to always perceive everything as bullying b) pearl watching perspective, she was definitely unnecessarily mistreated by her team

I’m thinking about the fact that pearl started this session on five lives.

she dies once to her own team, grian brushing off accidentally killing pearl by telling her “you were on five, you can spare a life”

and he’s right, pearl is still green.

pearl dies twice at the firewatch tower, and gem and grian chase after her begging her to come home where it’s safe.

and pearl is yellow.

skizz says the villies are a “legit force” for taking out ren and pearl responds “those two are, those two, not me.” and nobody hears her.

and then jimmy kills all of them, and pearl is red.

grian insists on going ahead of pearl down the lighthouse stairs because he’s “got a life to spare.”

pearl doesn’t want to go out of the series. “why do I have this sense of dread today?”

pearl tells martyn “I’m tired of hellos, I want to say goodbyes.” martyn is right, it’s poetic.

and the lighthouse isn’t safe anymore, they’ll have to build a bunker.

and then pearl is off to kill jimmy. there are no proper goodbyes to her team, only “good luck,” and “you’ve got this,” and “I’ll try.”

and pearl is dead.

at her funeral, grian says “pearl, I’m so sorry. If I hadn’t have killed you at the very start, we wouldn’t be here.”

and he’s right.

pearl i love you but i fear this may be the worst anybody's ever done it

honestly past life has just been a very difficult season for c! pearl (disclaimer this is all about the characters obviously the ccs themselves are friends and not suffering greatly due to their minecraft lore). she started off not making a lot of friends in the server even though she usually hangs out/talks to many people at the start ; then, the villies treated her poorly actually. even though it was all presented as teehee friendly bullying it really wasn't. pearl didn't feel good even in her own team, and being also teased by the rest of the server for her old skins (justified, but still) isolated her further ; then, she struggled to form a proper alliance with any other team — even the cabin was generally not fully allied with the villies, it was mostly just scott and etho ; she didn't get a single dignified death: she died to fall damage thrice, was killed by her own teammate, blown up while in a friendly conversation and not even needing to die cause she's at YELLOW, then shot while she was without armor and clearly frustrated with her gameplay for the session. not a good time to be a pearl fan i feel bad for her
