Cold Tumblr take guys but I thought season 2 of OFMD wasn't as good? It really took a dive in the later half of the season, it does not do much with what I thought would be more important plot points, and that final episode was a crime. The main gay relationship felt more... sanitized, somehow? Like, parodying a contemporary domestic couple got old fast, i would have liked it more if they leaned into the messier parts of being a pirate, honestly. I'm not saying I'm happy about the cancellation, but fixing the hole they dug themselves into feels... complicated? So I don't think this is just the product of systemic homophobia, but the cancellation of a series that got mixed reviews in the second season and a production pipeline that maybe got a bit too complicated to continue.

Still kinda sucks because I'd rather watch a mid gay show than a mid straight one, and I'd like for creators to have space to tell the story they want to tell in all the time they need and finish it properly, without the pressure of corporate greed. However, I'm not going to pretend I'm not kind of relieved that it's over because, well, the end felt so underwhelming I didn't want to get my hopes up for a 3rd season.
