She was rather surprised as he tugged her to her feet. Still questioning what he meant by bike. A bike was just a dinky little metal-frame-thing she never learned to ride. Riding on the handle bars was supposed to be corny and all, but she was pretty sure down town was a ways away from the school grounds, they’d both get pretty sore. Sure, she wanted to get away from the aforementioned hell hole, but was it worth that?
“Wait, Karkat, I... what?” She just stuttered in her confusion, letting him lead her to the parking lot, still confused about this ‘bike’ and what sort of ideas were playing around in that head of his.
And then, she saw it.
Her face lit up in excitement almost immediately, and the rest of her was frozen, just paralysed in excitement. It wasn’t until Karkat pushed the helmet into her hands that she started moving again, scrabbling to get it on while simultaneously shaking her head. “No I ain’t be, oh Hell, I have always wanted to.  She returned his smile with a huge grin, climbing on the back. “Holy mackerel I’m excited, motorbikes are so cool. You can teach me to ride this thing, right?” She babbled, her excitement getting the better of her.
She hadn’t had a hug in ages, yet this one felt every bit as good as she remembered hugs being. She was definitely going in for more of these. She liked imtimacy to a certain extent, whether that was platonic or romantic she didn’t care. So far she had never met anyone she was sexually attracted to, no one she particularly had an urge to share sexual intimacy with. Sure, she  had an interst in sex, she just lacked the attraction to people for sex part. She didn’t really understand, but she was in the LGBTQ Support Group for a reason.
That’s off topic, though. More to the point, Meenah was enjoying the romantic intimacy she was sharing with Karkat right now, leaning into his strokes on her cheek, scrunch up her nose as he kissed it, the affections made her squirm, but she still enjoyed them. “We’ll see how it goes,” She echoed him, turning her head to kiss the hand at her cheek. “Are you free for a while? We should do something exciting!”

She snorted, sarcastically drawling out her words, just playing of his own, making a mental not to ask him what his first language actually was. “You sure you can manage? English is hard, I would not wanna out too much pressure on you. If your up for it, I don’t understand half the words in question two.” She said, picking up her pencil.
2. Find the minimum sample size you should use to assure that your estimate of p will be within the required margin of error around the population p. The margin of error is 0.04, confidence level is 95%, and from a prior study, a  is estimated by 0.13.
“Okay, so I understand the smaller words here, like ‘find’ and ‘use’, but I ain’t sure of ‘some of the longer ones an’ what they mean. Unless mini-mum really is referrings to a tiny mother, then I can can got on just fine.”
Star Boy’s Maiden Voyage
‘Okay last class ‘a the day, you got this Peixes’ She thought to herself, slipping into an empty seat next to a guy whos nake she couldn’t quite remember. In her head she called him Star Boy, that was, of course, not his real name, but his name was close enough to some star’s name that she had made the connection hoping to use it as a memory key. Star Boy had clicked. Real name? Not so much. She didn’t fret too miuch about forgetting. it wasn’t like she was going to need it immediately, right?
Wrong.
As the teacher finished the lecture and handed out sheets her urge to head-butt the desk grew exponentially. Ha. Math humour. But, yes, her dread levels climbed as she looked over the sheet. There were a lot of words on this sheet, and very few stand-alone problems. Fuck.
After about five minutes of trying to to make the sheet catch fire with her mind, and failing, she relented, turning to the guy next to her. “Hey, uh, I have not been in America too long, an’ my English ain’t good. I mean, I’m real good at maths, don’t need no help there, I’m just needing help readin’ all these words.”

He was going that deep shade of red again, and she had to suppress her urge to tease him about it like she had grown accustomed to in the time they had spent together. She just watched him quietly for a while, even after looked her in the eye and asked her a question she didn’t respond immediately. A moment or two passed before she was freeing her hands and using them to try and pull him in to a hug. Hugs were nice. Hugs helped people relax… or at least, they were nice and relaxing for her. She just hoped Karkat felt the same.
She rested her chin on his shoulder, taking a breath before responding. “You need to calm down, this ain’t selfish a’ you. You got deep feelings for the two a’ us girls an’ wanna date us both. Its sweet you’d rather give out double the love than choose between us. Y’know? You ain’t wantin’ to be without Garnet, uh… Jade or me an’ its real nice to feel needed like that. I’ve never been in your situation, but I can still say your decision here ain’t makin’ you a shitty person or nothin’.” She said, giving him a squeeze before pulling back just enough to meet his eyes.
“I’m really worried ‘boutchu, though. You’re all stressed out an’ we ain’t even official yet. I don’t wanna see you stress yourself to death here. I’m willin’ to give this a shot, like, we can have the dance date be a… tester? Of sorts? If that ain’t to stressful, an’ you can get through it without feelin’ shitty our guilty or crazy for tryin’ this, then I think givin’ a poly relationship would be okay. But, if you can’t handle the dance, then you gotta know a relationship is only gonna be a magnified version a’ that, an’ tryin’ to go for it might not be the best idea an’ we can figure something out from there. I just want you to be happy an’ healthy’ an’ not feelin’ shitty for doin’ somethin’ that’s perfectly okay.” She said, smiling at him.
 It was somewhat forced, really.
She didn’t want to admit it, but considering everything, she’d probably just back off in things got too stressful for him. Her only other options were 1. letting him stay stressed, which was not something a good girlfriend did, or 2. she or Jade would end up monogamous with him. If she backed off first, Jade would get him. If Jade backed off first, she would get him. She had no idea what sort of relationship she and Karkat shared, maybe they were already boyfriend and girlfriend. She’d broken up couples before, sure. But Karkat wouldn’t even be her friend any more if she did something malicious like that just to be his girlfriend. Not even having him as a friend would be more painful than seeing him around the school with Jade. She could always fight Jade for him, sure, but that ran the risk of being kicked out, and, just as losing him as friend would be more painful than losing him as a boyfriend, being expelled and never seeing him again would be the most painful thing at all.
It hurt even just thinking about her options. Karkat was the first person she ever felt this way for, she treasured him. He was her treasure, and dammit if she wasn’t selfish and possessive when it came to treasure. But still. Treasure had a price, an’ if that price was worth less than the ornate, priceless treasure chest to get at it, then it was best to leave the chest intact, use it as decoration, or something, rather than destroying to get the gold within Sure, she’d mourn the unreachable treasure, but it was better than way, really.
“I ain’t good with this gushy stuff, I don’t know how to say how I’m feelin’ right now, but I guess part a’ what I know I’m feelin’ is concern, cause I care aboutchu, an’, uh… stuff. An’ I just wanna do this, I wanna be with you, but I don’t wanna be makin’ you feel shitty, or like you’re cheatin’ cause those ain’t happy thoughts, and… yeah.” She exhaled softly, pressing her forehead to his, “You know what I’m sayin’?”

She sagged and slouched a little as he put his arm around her, not for any reason other than to act like it was the absolute heaviest thing ever to be placed on her shoulders. In other words, she was just fucking around. laughing with him, talking with him, she wasn’t sure they had had many serious moments. Even now, when she could tell he wanted a serious chat she was fucking around, right up until he started talking again at which point she set her face, and stopped fucking around so she could listen.
It wasn’t at all what she expected. At first she was a mixture of excitement and disappointment. There was someone else who Karkat had his eye on, and he had asked her to the dance, and yet… he also asked her, Meenah, to go with him too. The second part of her reaction was just utter amusement, so much so that she snorted and laughed.
“Karkat, you are aware that polyandry means a wife takin’ multiple husbands, right? You pretty much just called yourself a girl, an’ me an’ this Ruby… Jade? Yeah, this Jade person, boys right?” She just snickered a moment more before returning to being serious, “I get what you’re sayin’ though, yeah. I mean… I didn’t even know it was possible to BE polygamous, to use a broader term. Time with my dad’s family in India taught me polygamous is a practice, not an orientation, but if poly’s how you is oriented I ain’t gonna kick up a fuss. It ain’t my orientain; I don’t get a say in how yo’ feelings work” She said, pausing to take breath and let her lips relax a bit, that was a lot of English in very little time.
“I was raised to accept that poly is a thing that happens all the time, an’ I don’t really think it’s selfish. I trust you’re all proper an’ mature an’ honest an’ shit. I ain’t ready to call you my boyfriend yet, but I will go to the dance with you under this poly-deal-thing with Amber, (fuck) Jade. Jade knows ‘bout this too, right? She ain’t gon’ be confused or freaked when I’m dancin’ ‘with her man’?” She said, tilting her head to the side slightly, her other hand moving to hold Karkat’s between both of her’s. “An’ who even is she? I get that she’s a student, an’ all, but I’m p. sure I ain’t met her.”

Karkinos. Interesting. Karkat was interesting too, of course, but Karkinos really had that twist to it. Both names had her snickering, mostly at the latter part, finding baby cat hybrid Karkat to be to the max adorbs. “I think it’s cool,” She drawled, drawing a little fish by his crab, “Cute too.” That’s pretty much the exact moment she decided to start calling him “Kitty”. A) to annoy him B) it was as close to a term of endearment as she could get this early in the game.
As they spent more time together though, her methods of trying to annoy him grew more and more affectionate, from joking about his name, all the way to kissing at his neck and giggling at him as he trued to concentrate and speak through it. Hanging out with him. her eating didn’t get any better, even watching him eat, didn’t do much for her, but chatting with him did improve her English drastically, she knew multiple words of one meaning, she knew proper conjugations, she wasn’t fluent, and her American accent was still the shoddiest thing in existence, but she was making progress, in vocabulary and speed, she even knew enough Englush to drop the occasional [read: frequent] fish pun. She couldn’t help but show off, especially if it meant she got to embrace something she loved.
So, when Karkat slid into the seat next to her in that nice, Saturday afternoon, and his gravelly voice met her ears, she barely had to translate, she was getting better at thinking in English too. She leaned into his kiss, and reached for his hand, paused, drew her hand back, dried it in the fabric of her shirt, and then finally reached out to take his hand. Evidentially she had not just been looking at the fish but playing with them too, letting them chase her fingers. “Kitty, hey! Shore, I got a seacond.” She grinned, meeting his eyes and giving him her full attention. “What’s this something?”
Was he going to ask her to the dance? Or out on a date? Maybe to be his super real date FOR the dance? She could feel her excitement growing.

Was he going to ask her to the dance? Or out on a date? Maybe to be his super real date FOR the dance? She could feel her excitement growing.
Karkat smiled at how proud of that she looked. He thought that was absolutely adorable. “My name,” He said, writing out his name in his neat, slanted cursive. “Comes from ‘Karkinos,’ a monster that Hercules fought in Greek mythology.” He sketched out a little crab. “The last part is because my dad is kind of an idiot, and when I was born, he said I sounded like a cat so he decided to tack that onto my name instead of straight up naming me Karkinos like he had planned.” Karkat rolled his eyes. “My name isn’t nearly as awesome as yours. Mine is lame as fuck.”
For the rest of class they continued to joke about each others names, lots of humor at the others expense until the bell finally rang. Their days from then on continued in this way. As often as possible they spent time together, Karkat helping Meenah out with her English as much as he could without getting distracted by the feel of those full lips at his neck. If she’d keep her god damn mouth closed and to herself, he thought fondly, they’d get a lot more work done. Still, it was great, and the positive energy he was taking on seemed to be helping lessen the side effects of his medicine. He was able to eat some. Not much, his portions were laughably small, but being able to keep some food down dramatically improved the look of him over the course of just a few weeks. He was still twig skinny, pale, and weak, but if one looked very closely and knew his face well, there was a new fullness there that hadn’t bee before. His eyes were brighter, didn’t seem as sunken in. his cheekbones were less harsh looking, and he smiled easier. Now he coulnt credit Meenah for all of this, his other new friends played a huge roll as well, but it was mostly Meenah, and Jade. He had taken Jade out the other day, and after the way it went… He just knew he was mad about both of these girls, and he’d never be able to chose. He knew without a doubt then that he was polyandrous, and hoped to god meenah would take that as well as jade had. He slid into the seat beside hers one Saturday afternoon, catching her in the courtyard on the bench by the pond. He’d bet money she was gazing at the fish. “Hey fish,” He said, a playful note to his gravely voice. He leaned down and kissed her cheek. “You got a second? There’s something I want to talk to you about.”

She grinned at the notebook before flipping it open and grabbing a pen to write with. Luckily, Karkat was on her right side, so her left hand was free to write. She scrawled a few words. One, in Hindi with ‘(meena)’ underneath, and one in Portuguese, ‘Pexies’, each word had an arrow pointing away from it. “With a LIL’ elaboration, my first name translates from Hindi to meaning ‘fish’.” She said, writing the word ‘fish’ by one of the arrows.
“And my last name, is plurals, technically.” She continued, scratching out the ‘s’ on ‘Peixes’. “Peixe, pay-she, translates from Portuguese to meaning fish.” She said, writing fish by the second arrow, and circling the lot of it. “So, conclusion? My name is fish fish and my parents are either complete idiotics, or geniuses.” She grinned, giving his hand another squeeze. I guess this is Meenah;s lame-ass way of playing the’getting to know you’ game with Karkat.
bitemeyoufucker:
He gripped her hand a little tighter when she questioned his balance, shrugging it off as if it was nothing. “Just got caught on the bean bag,” He fibbed. It felt really wrong to lie to her, he liked her too much, but he would hate for her to look at him like a kicked puppy, the way everyone else looked at him.  He gave a small smile and tried to walk tall, straight, and steady. “Anyway… “ He lifted up the back of his leg and gently kicked Meenah on the butt. He wanted to get her off the subject of his health, so he decided to go really bold. “You know,” He said, trying his luck. He felt so… bold with her fingers laced through his. “If half the students in this school looked half as good as you I’d have to fucking transfer.” he shook his head, nudging her fondly. “You’re a god damn distraction and I’ve only known your ass for two hours.”

She had no idea why he was gripped her hand so tightly, so suddenly. She honestly just came to think that he was squeezing her hand, so she, of course, squeezed back, nodding to his words. “Ah, gotch-WOAH!” She stumbled a bit as he literally kicked her ass, looking both amused and shocked, and even more so as he spoke again. After a moment or two of blinking, and a split-second of nearly running into a pole, she came back down to earth. “What can I say, I’m gorgeous an’ sexy. I’ve gotta be turning at least a few heads or gettin’ out bed just wasn’t worth it.” She snickered.
It wasn’t a long walk from the library to the science centre,  so they arrived pretty quickly. “If I’m not too much of a distraction, you wanna sit next to me?” She asked, letting go of his hand to slide into a seat, “You could be a distraction too, I mean... if this weren’t marine science. Not even handsome guys can disctract me from fish! Nothing can, really. Except maybe other fish.” She gushed, hands cupping her cheeks, her mouth pulled into a wide grin. “Wanna know a secret?”
bitemeyoufucker:
When Meenah didn’t kiss him back karkat experienced a sensation like a heavy stone sinking into his gut. She didn’t like it. She didn’t want it. Holy shit this was going to be the worst first kiss story ever and he was going to have…

She snorted, “I’m sat on it, good luck!” She nudged him again, looking up as the bell rang. Shit. She didn’t want to leave Karkat’s company. He was making today so much fun, and not just because he kissed her. More like because he was real. He was someone who she thought she could maybe talk to? He didn’t seem to care much about his appearance, not that he was unclean, or bad looking, in fact she could probably stare at him all day just to memorize his features. No, he didn’t seem to care, not about appearances, but about how he presented himself? Maybe that was a better way to put it? He swore. A lot. And didn’t seem to care if she found that offensive (she didn’t). He seemed confident in who he was, that was what she meant, and above all else, confidence was very attractive.
So, after packing up their things, and standing, she handed Karkat his bag, taking his hand more surely this time. “Oh nooo, my ass is exposed, I hope no one kicks it!” She joked, mostly just being dumb and stupid for the hell of it. “Also, hey. You looked a lil’ dizzy back there, you okay? Did you get one a’ those rush head things from standin’ up too fast?” Head rush. She meant head rush; not rush head. Nonetheless, as they started their walk to marine science (another class they shared, thank the administrator <3), she looked a little worried. She knew from experience that not eating, like they both had done to their lunch, could make a person light-headed? Maybe that was what was up? If so his reasons really weren’t her business, like her’s weren’t his.
