NRS fucked over Hanzo and Kuai Liang so much in Mortal Kombat 1 that it’s not even funny. They made the former into a child and gave his wife, Harumi, and their clan, the Shirai Ryu, to his friend, Kuai Liang, who was also given his personality, becoming more short-tempered and aggressive. It was painful watching NRS make him into a poorer version of Scorpion.

NRS treated these two characters as if they were interchangeable, when this wasn’t the case. Hanzo and Kuai Liang have different personalities and backstories and come from separate cultures. Their differences is what made their relationship compelling due to how they balanced each other out, but NRS failed to recognize this and threw it all away.
