A frame pulled out of the super is full of honey and mostly capped. Once the nectar is brought back from the flower and vomited into the cell, the bees flap their little wings to reduce the water in it to turn it into honey. A swarm. Swarms happen for several reasons. One is when a hive is strong and thriving it decides it needs more room so it splits. When this happens at one of our apiaries they usually aren't far away and we can catch them and put them into a new hive. This is what our apiary looks like when we are about to extract the honey. We put clearer boards on the day before, which allows the bees to clear out of the top honey super overnight. We then come back the next day and tip the boxes on their edges like this. Any remaining bees, we blow out with a blower vac before placing the honey supers onto pallets and loading them onto the truck.
