The Reader is a romance/crime film that utterly dismantled my lore for human inclination. This classic movie gives emphasis to the sexual relationship story of Michael Berg (David Kross) a 15-year-old boy, and Hannah Schmitz (Kate Winslet), an obscure woman in her mid-30s, which was narrated from the standpoint of Michael.
Through a flashback framework, the story embarks on the present life of Michael then takes the audience back to the late 1950s when Hannah found Michael on the street who was intensely puking and feverish, thus bringing him to her apartment to be looked after. Consequently, the succeeding days were filled with their obsession with sex which paved way for Michael to know his sexuality and fascination for women. Their relationship nourished both of their hunger: Michael who was yearning for sex and Hannah, aside from the pleasure she gets from lovemaking, desires for his read-aloud term which then became his love language only for her.
The first thing that I distinguished from the film was the role of nudity and coitus which were the crucial reasons why their relationship continued at least for a tolerable duration. Such an affair was outrageously bizarre and quite erroneous for the preference of other people, however, in my viewpoint, this certain preference can be assumed as a social construction, if it is not mandated by law. Kate Winslet has successfully snagged my attention because of her tremendous acting skill. Her great deliverance justified my expectations on a higher scale with regards to how I have pictured Hannah Schmitz in the book. Every subtle movement and even the gesture she made has subscribed to the relevance for her character embodiment. From the beginning of exuding her immaculate physique to the demonstration of aged Hannah was simply jaw-dropping.
Similarly, David Kross' performance was exceptional in portraying Michael Berg- a naive child who fell in love with someone whom he knew nothing about. He was able to cope with Kate's dominating aptitude through the invariable grief in his eyes and his perplexing appearance. It is quite startling but astonishing to see him fully unclad because, for several decades, women are the only ones who always got the role of exposing their bosom in the name of femininity. It literally equalizes what most courageous women artists do for the sake of their enactment. Also, for some fair reason, their erotic scenes did not indicate that it was a pornographic movie, but it was only a reflection of how love can be so dangerous, intimate, bold, or genuine. Further, the transition of being an innocent youngster into an enigmatic lad who mystifies even his family was successfully executed by Ralph Fiennes. The moment I set my eyes on him, he immediately bewildered me. Particularly when he went to Hannah's prison cell, he was so immersive that even though he only cried for just a brief moment, I honestly felt the emotion.
This film has made me realize the true power of knowledge. Many critics perceive the circumstance as if Hannah does not deserve any form of absolution. I feel bad for her not because she was convicted for 300 cases of murder and was sentenced to life imprisonment. The story was told from Michael's perspective, hence, surmising a conclusion based on his aspect of understanding of her is totally absurd. The story did not encompass Hannah's point of view, past life, and substantial reasons why she was illiterate. Just imagine if she has had the privilege or even the smallest opportunity to get educated at school, she could not have that kind of life. Apparently, what she did to the jews was entirely inexpiable and vicious, still, if her illiteracy can affect her sentence, then knowledge can also have an enormous impact on her life- which was the main reason why she deserves some consideration after what she did.
The story was quite unique even though I have already seen several Holocaust movies. The director was amazing; albeit the film was not as comprehensive as the book. But the greatness of the production, especially the chosen actors, even the ones who had a quick cameo were impressive. Kate Winslet is now one of my favorite actresses๐Ÿ’˜

Things I once enjoyed
Just keep me employed now
Things I'm longing for, mmh
Someday, I'll be bored of
It's so weird
That we care so much until we don't

This pandemic has taught me that we, humans, can enjoy our lives to our own magnitude, but without being prudent and mindful about our future, we would encounter so many adversities along the way that we can no longer withstand because we are not financially, emotionally, and physically prepared. Being impulsive and reckless sometimes leads us into a chaotic life that we tend to lose ourselves as we also relinquish our self-control. This crisis has taught me to enjoy life while still instilling my control for myself, emotions, and impulsiveness.

The essence of a mother does not end with just conceiving and delivering a child into this world. It continues until the child learns how to be independent with him/herself.
