How it started vs how it's going!
I love them both so much but I am happy to see improvement with my work! 🎣

Got to see my favorite Sandhill crane couple again last week. Just one colt this year sadly. This male and female are year-round residents here so i've been watching them raise chicks for years now. I'm always enamored with their teamwork when it comes to parenting; notice how they effortlessly alternate on guard duty while the other takes a moment to forage with baby. This mom and dad clearly know what they're doing!
Even among a species that is celebrated for exceptional parenting, these two birds shine. I feel very sentimental towards this little family (and if you’ve been following along the past few years you might too). I hope our 2025 colt grows to be as tall and strong as her siblings before her!

A bus may have only a couple of passengers, especially at the beginning or end of its route. But let's also take fuel efficiency into account.

The first time darlin initiated contact with sam in public was at a pack meeting and everyone slowly stopped and stared at “don’t touch me or I’ll punch you” darlin curling into sam as he stared at them with hearts in his eyes

[ID: an illustration labeled “Iconic fauna of Hawai’i”, depicting animals - an i’iwi bird, a monk seal, a humpback whale, an Oahu tree snail, a yellow-faced bee, a nēnē goose, a Hawaiian hawk, a hoary bat, and a reef triggerfish. Teal leaves adorn the background and there is a red, yellow, and blue patterned border. Animals are labeled with their Hawaiian and English names. End.]
The theme for Creature Mail this month is endemic island creatures! This design will be a postcard. :-)

Teenage Angel met David, Asher, and Milo at a convenience store. Obviously they didn’t know it at the time, but in the background of a silly photo they took with their friend, teenage David can be seen spilling his slushy all over himself.

I fully believe if Darlin had been in the inversion, they would have died
I have zero doubts
Now, not from a story perspective, that wouldn’t be fun for anyone involved. I don’t think Erik would kill off a listener and we wouldn’t like our Sam supply cut off.
However! Darlin, as a person, would absolutely die. Die saving Lovely, die saving Asher, die saving Damien even - they would shift, get lost, not use their radio, and die in some random hallway while the rest of the pack try and fail to find them, begging that it was just the radio that died and not the wolf on the other line. And they would’ve said no if Vincent or Sam had found them before that. They would have died, probably on their first security gig back too.
Milo would’ve been able to save all of his family - just not them - David wouldn’t have to organise a funeral for someone he’d known since childhood - if it wasn’t for them - Asher would have someone to compare scars with - if they’d have survived.
#ur so right op#this makes me inspired#more inspired than i’ve been in a good while#maybe i’ll write a little something for this#who knows

Darlin and David are such:
“I want to protect you, why won’t you let me protect you.”
And
“It is my job to protect you.”
And I think that mentality is why they clash, because for David it’s like it’s his moral duty to save everyone, and he does so by fighting for them. Whereas Darlin saves people by trying to remove them from the actual fight. David pushes through, Darlin pushes away. It’s facing pain with a ‘no one deserves this’ mentality, versus ‘I deserve it, not them - do it to me, not them’.
It’s a strange balancing act.
