Kate Jackson Basketball Court: More than a court

The design needed to maintain the regulation lines of a traditional court but this court is in the heart of Hyde Park Village with a playground, public art and a water feature so the standard green and white wouldn���t cut it. We wanted to embrace all three aspects of this Park and create a timeless yet playful mural that serves the basketball players, the historic preservation the surrounding neighborhood and the generations of families that played and gathered there.

Larger than life floral shapes and vibrant colors invite in the entire historic Hyde Park neighborhood to see the Kate Jackson park as more than just basketball courts.

Multiple layers of sheet steel shapes cut and stacked like the contour lines of a map float above the blended grey tones of acrylic paint. Fluid shapes of rigid steel complement the natural lay of the pulled layers of paint, creating an oversized horizontal composition that directs your eyes through the space for a profound statement piece.

This aerial view landscape is a mixed media art installation of raw steel and acrylic paint in duotone greys. A deep, muted color palette adds dramatic juxtaposition to the clean, glossy white finishes of the surrounding walls and furniture.

Howard Flex

Precise geometric lines and numbers on a corrugated surface. 

The goal of this mural and signage was to attract the attention of potential tenants for a utilitarian building that could be built to suit. We wanted to create a design bold enough to draw attention without overshadowing the building itself, which can be a delicate dance. The address and unit numbers have to be legible while simultaneously blending with the design.

Howard Flex mural:

Our greatest technical challenge with this project was to maintain the accuracy of the sharp diagonal lines over the deep corrugations in the metal walls. Projectors and chalk lines got us started, but the final product required a tremendous amount of physical stamina and attention to detail. For our finished design, we created floating three-dimensional jewels with vibrant colors on every facet.
