The Dream Trilogy (...by yours truly...)
So…
I came to a decision at the weekend, and that decision was to share with you guys the fanfiction I worked on BEFORE I started writing Drarry almost two years ago.
This is The Dream Trilogy. It’s 530K words long, and over all I spent 13 years writing it. Yeah, so it’s kind of a big deal to me.
At the start, I thought my old profile, HelenJay, would be my sensible, successful one, and Juliet’sEmoPhase would be the small indulgence on the side. Lol. Now it’s obvious that the opposite is completely the case, but I’d held off telling either set of followers about the other account for…reasons.
Basically, I was shy about sharing my smutty side with my regular readers. But seeing as I am now pursuing a career as a romantic mm author, that seems a moot point. But I still hesitated, because there were things about the trilogy I wasn’t sure you guys in the Drarry/romance camp would like, which I’ll get into that in a sec. But I finally thought, what the hell? Some of you might love it! So here we go.
I’ll start by saying that this trilogy began on a whim when I was 17 years old and knew precious little (fuck all) about writing. I dallied with it for 9-10 years, until I almost got to the end, but by that point my style had changed so much (I stopped totally sucking) so I decided to re-write the entire thing, which took a lot of literal blood, sweat and tears over a period of 3-4 years.
In that time, I wasn’t in the fandom at all, and that’s where I think the trilogy falls down a bit, as I was quite out of touch with what readers wanted, i.e. SHIPPING. I didn’t think I could do romance at all, so that’s why it’s a reeeaally small part of the story…which is probably for the best because… (BRACE YOURSELVES) …it’s Dramione. I know, I’m sorry. BUT! In my defense, they are from an alternative reality, so are basically OCs, and the fic is waaaayyy more focused on the Drarry bromance anyway.
If I could go back, I would probably just make the whole thing properly Drarry, but ahh well, never mind. The truth is though, there is still a lot of this trilogy I am very proud of. And that’s ultimately why I have decided to open up and let you guys read it, as well as share my Drarry with my trilogy followers.
Also, I am going to be as focused as possible on my original novels for the foreseeable future. Yes, I have a Halloween fic that will be out in time for the holiday (if I make enough sacrifices to the writing gods) and I will be finishing my long fic Healing Hands at some point. But in the meantime I thought it was silly to sit on three novel length stories that you might like to take a peek at.
If it’s not your cup of tea, that’s absolutely fine. I’ll be the first to say this is quite different to my fluffy romances. But I hope some of you might be interested in giving it a go!
This right here is basically how I taught myself to write, and it will always hold a very special place in my heart.
