[ Okay, so. This bugs me A LOT when people say this, and yes, these are my own headcannons, but I stick by them.

PIPPIN IS NOT A MINOR. HE IS NOT A CHILD. AND HE IS NOT STUPID.

Pippin is in his tweens around the time they set out. He is in his 20′s. He’s not a minor. He’s not a child. HOWEVER. He’s not classified as an “adult” in Hobbit society either. 

Comparing Hobbit ages with our ages, Pippin would be in the age rage of 18-20. 33 is the Hobbit 21. He’s in that awkward age range where you’re not a child, and you are technically an adult, but society doesn’t classify you as an adult yet.

So, no. Pippin is NOT a minor or a child. He is perfectly capable of critical thinking, of deciding things for himself. As evidence of him pledging himself to Denethor. Pippin is SMART. But. He is also curious. He’s a Hobbit that’s been taken from his home and thrust into a world that he doesn’t know. He’s going to be curious. He’s going to make mistakes. And that’s okay.

To insinuate he’s a minor, a child, or stupid because of these things, you honestly haven’t been thrust into an environment you’re not familiar with. It’s human nature to test your boundaries, to be curious, to try new things, to do things you’ve never done before. 

But, he IS smart. He’s CRAFTY. As shown with the ents. Merry was so gung-ho on the ents storming Isengard, whereas Pippin convinced Treebeard to go that way, saying that it would be the best way to get past, knowing full well that it would get the ents to do as they needed to do once they saw what Saruman had done. Pippin is smart. He’s an adult. And a very smart one at that. That is all. ]

         Brows knot together. “There is very little you could do bring forth my anger.” Faramir was not a man known for it. Frustration sure, but true anger? It was a creature who did not often show it’s head. And considering how excited his friend had seemed to be moments prior, it did make him curious. “So are you going to tell me or are you going to make me guess?” There is a teasing smile to his words. There was a flicker of worry that indeed something was wrong, but he quickly dismissed it.  

            “Well, I .... “

He cleared his throat a bit. Okay. Time to pull a Pippin™.

            “I was talkin’ ta’ Merry the other day and he said that there’d been a             new forma pipeweed that’d been made, and we was tryin’ it and I swear             it was the bes’ one yet. Way better’n Longbottom Leaf. I brought ya’             some ta’ try, if ya’ really wanted to ! And I was talkin’ to Sam and he             dun rightly know where’n all these--”

Pippin rambled on, as was his usual. He talked about different coming and goings in the Shire, things that he thought might’ve been interesting, people doing things that were outlandish ... but it was all just fluff. It was filling so that he could wind himself up into saying what he really wanted to say.

            “Oh! ‘N’ I named muh kid after ya’! My wife wasn’ all too keen             ‘bout it, but I wasn’ about to let ‘im have some dumb name             like Hyke or Tryke or somethin’ weird that ‘er grams wanted.”

Gandalf: I’d give them all a kidney but the other day Pippin borrowed my pipe so I hit him with my staff.

             He sets the mug in front of the hobbit, a slight brow raised. “So,” he begins as he sits across the table from his friend. “What is it you are so eager to tell me?” A smile curves the sides of the new princes’ lips, as he brought his own mug up to them. 

As gung-ho as he had been, only moments before, to actually tell Faramir his news, now that he was sitting here, with his friend waiting ... the Hobbit was honestly rather nervous. Would Faramir take the news well? Would he be angry? He wasn’t sure why he’d be angry, but the thought was still there. Pippin swallowed a bit, staring into his mug of ale.

He’d clear his throat a bit before speaking.

                 “I’m hopin’ ya’ won’t be mad at me, though, I dun rightly know                 why ya’ would be.”
