“I’ll hold your hand Max.” He seemed friendly enough and Hannah was confident that she could get away if he was anything but. Her tiny hand taking his the little brunette lead the way down the street. It took a little while to get to the quaint little flower shop, but as the door jingled open and  the pair entered there was a blond pale man who looked in their direction… and shock was clear on his face.

“Hannah?! What are you-… where is Claire?!” James asked, hurrying over to knel down and check her over for any injuries. “Claire wanted to meet with her boyfriend so left me to play in the park… but she took a long time. Max saw some spooky things and got me away before bringing me here.” Hannah explained.

Casting his gaze onto the Knight James rose to his feet, offering a grateful smile, “Thanks, if something happened to her out there…. well… thank you.”

This kid certainly was a gem. She was genuinely sweet-- Max let her take his hand, leading the way as he kept an eye out for more Heartless. They often targeted children-- most couldn’t fight back as efficiently as adults. Though this kid certainly had a bright light-- which only made her a more appetizing target to those that fed on hearts.

Seeing the two reunited finally quelled the Knight’s nerves-- he relaxed slightly, nodding his head as he offered a hand. Perhaps more formal protocol would involve saluting or bowing-- but Max had always been one to diverge from the norm.

“Sir Max-- but you can just call me Max. Hannah is lucky I found her-- those Heartless would have snatched her up if they had the chance. I might consider finding a new sitter.”

He glanced at the flowers-- there was a softness in his gaze. They reminded him of his mother. He couldn’t remember much-- but she’d always smelled of earth and flowers. She often tended the garden at the castle before--

“Do you run this shop by yourself?”

“I don’t use shields myself, but this one… man, it’s so cool.” While Sora wouldn’t consider himself a connoisseur when it came to weapons, he had come to start appreciating them, not just as tools but… in an aesthetic sense as well.

As he was about to give the shield back to its owner, he took a closer look at the other boy. There was something… familiar about him. But then again, he hadn’t been to Disney Castle that many times, not until recently.

“You… kinda look like someone I know.”

“Yup-- it’s pretty amazing alright. I designed her myself. Most knights might use traditional weapons-- but not this guy.” He pointed at himself with a thumb, smirking with confidence. Of course this kid thought he was cool-- he simply was. The comment about resembling someone he knew made the knight chuckle.

“I should hope so-- you’ve been running around all this time with my dad.” He’d heard about Sora through his dad and Donald-- not to mention the King. They spoke pretty highly of him, but honestly Max expected someone--

Taller.

Offering a hand he flashed another smile.

“Sir Maximilian Goof. At your service. You can call me Max.”

A royal Knight? Certainly he should be looking after his king or queen… or even princesses or princes. But instead he was here… and even if he was a Knight Hannah didn’t know him properly, and she shouldn’t tell strangers where she lived. “I can’t tell you where I live, but I can tell you where my Daddy works. Its in Debbie’s Daises, five blocks away.” Hannah replied slowly, “He’s not gonna be happy to know my babysitter left me in the street… my name is Hannah.”

“Alright-- that sounds like a plan.” He offered a hand. “Would you like to hold my hand? Or maybe you’d like a piggy back ride? Don’t worry-- I’ll get you back to your dad safe and sound.” He could understand why the kid was afraid-- this world had its dangers. He couldn’t exactly leave the tot to toddle back on her own.

It was his duty to see her safely to her destination.

“You look like a good sort of helper, Hannah. Maybe you should lead us there.” He was trying his best-- his dad was way better with kids than he was. Max was tapping into his experiences acting as the triplet’s sitter.

“Do you see those guys? They’re bad. My name is Max-- I’m a Knight. It’s my job to keep people safe from those things.” He tapped the armor on his shoulder. “See? Royal Knight.”

Glancing over his shoulder, he saw they’d lost their tail for now. With a sigh he pulled over, setting the kid down as he kicked up his shield, catching it with a free hand. He crouched down to look the kid in the eye-- hopefully she wouldn’t feel too intimidated.

“Do you remember where you live? It’s a knight’s duty to escort Princesses safely back to their castles.” Maybe playing to her imagination would help.
