Earlier this season, on the day the K-pop band Stray Kids was scheduled to play a sold-out concert at T-Mobile Park, the band’s security team was startled to look down on the field and see a shadowy figure running sprints in the outfield early in the afternoon.
The security team quickly alerted the Mariners stadium operations staff of their concerns: Who is that? There’s not supposed to be anyone out there!
Oh, came the response from Mariners security. That’s Ichiro.
Didn’t matter that a stage had been erected in the outfield or that a hard plastic surface was put down to protect the field’s pristine grass; Ichiro has his regimen and he won’t let anything disrupt it.
from Ichiro will join Hall of Fame this weekend. But his legacy has long been cemented by Adam Jude for the Seattle Times

I’m so full of rage and upset over the outcome of the Hockey Canada trial.
Survivors today, myself included, will be grieving for E.M., for other victims, and for themselves.
So please take time for yourself today, be with people who love and support you, do something that you love, and if you need to, log off for a bit if you’re feeling crowded by triggering topics.
Taking care of yourself is an act of resilience within itself!!

idk man at some point when you have someone who has blatantly lied about inviting people to the room when there's proof he texted all of his friends about a 3way, when guys who said some pretty fucking damning stuff a couple of years ago about EM being slapped and looking uncomfortable really fucking conveniently don't remember anything about it now, when the same old misogynistic arguments about a sa victim """wanting it""" when the guys are literally shaking hands with a mra before court, when there's some suspect as fuck """""consent video""""" where you can hear guys laughing in the background, when you oh so conveniently toss aside the previous texts and testimonies contradicting the defence's narrative (from those btw who were briefly in the room, were not being accused and therefore had no reason to lie or collude), when you know one of these pos told his friends not to tell the inspectors about what they saw him do. these guys are probably gonna find their way back to the nhl. and when they do i hope we never let them fucking forget this. i hope their career is forever fucking tainted. if i see a single fucking article or video about how "this was really hard for them actually" i hope they fucking rot in hell

hockeyblr, here’s some strongly suggested reading:
Tumblr media
Leveling the Ice is coming out on September 16. As a bookseller I got early access to it and it’s fantastic.
Normally I’d prefer a book about racism to be written by someone from the marginalized communites involved, but this book is by an older white man who’s gone through his own reckoning and is now inviting the rest of the hockey establishment to come along with him on his journey. He’s approachable about it, but doesn’t pull his punches. It’s really very well done and I learned so much.
I’ve put the publisher’s description below the cut:
A deep dive into the institutional racism and prejudice in the sport of hockey that persists across all levels – and how it will impact the future of the sport
While professional sports leagues claim to promote diversity and inclusivity, institutional racism remains apparent in all sports, but especially hockey. In Leveling the Ice, sportswriter Steven Sandor challenges the perception that hockey is open to everyone and the idea that the hockey establishment wants more inclusion and diversity.
Featuring interviews with NHL players of color like Darnell Nurse, Matt Dumba, Nazeem Kadri, Zach Whitecloud, Ethan Bear, Jason Robertson, Sandor reveals their stories of exclusion to highlight the deeply ingrained racism in the sport. The players share insights into the racism they faced while they built their careers as well as the racism, they still face today from the hockey establishment
From hockey’s racist past to the ongoing reluctance of the hockey establishment to embrace grassroots diversity initiatives, Sandor delves into how members of communities of color (who only make up 5% of the NHL) are being driven away from the sport to more inclusive ones like soccer and basketball, despite the NHL’s expansion to new markets and demographics with billion-dollar TV deals. Comprehensive and timely, Leveling the Ice grapples with how the institutional racism in hockey will directly affect the future of the sport.

most of y’all know i’m from texas by now! i’ve seen literally nobody talking about this anywhere, so i just figured i’d mention it. it’s very important to me that people hear of this.
there’s been a huge flash flood with a genuinely horrific outcome in our hill country. it’s very scary when you’ve got so many people being affected. next to the large number of deaths, is the large number of those that are still out there and missing. this has ruined a lot of things, torn apart a lot of families, and the recovery once all of this is said and done will be extremely rough.
the storms causing the flooding are only continuing to move and cause damage. if anybody wants more information on this, i am more than willing to educate y’all on all that’s going on down here right now.
i care deeply about my home and the people that make it feel like home, so i figured talking about it and getting it out there was the least i could do for everyone hurting and everyone who is going to have to experience the hurt if it touches them.
texas is huge, y’all. the amount of small towns being affected that will probably not get any kind of help is sad. often times, they are simply skimmed over and not seen as a big issue for some reason. that is my worry for this time around. if you have the means to help and feel like it, here are some places that you can donate to (all are non profits)!
Kerr County Flood Relief Fund - will distribute the money throughout organizations that do various things to help in every way (rescue, recovery, etc.).
Kerrville Pets Alive! - helps the rescuing, aiding, and reuniting of pets with their families.
Operation BBQ Relief - deployed to texas to provide food for those affected! a $25 donation is equal to 4 hot meals.
i suggest reading up on these before donating as that is always the smartest thing to do, but if you so much as consider pitching in to help—big thanks from me to you!

omg journalism is so fun, especially writing about sports, you are ambitious for college girl!!
ooh that sounds so cool! you're braver that i am, i love chem but i don't think i could go into the medical field
i'm planning on doing a sports management and journalism double major with a minor in photography and working with a sports team at my college
luckily my dream college has d1 sports and is kinda a big deal in college sports (i'm probably gonna end up managing baseball or swimming (or maybe wrestling, i might manage wrestling this winter just to see if i like it)
sports management and journalism sound like so much fun. it also seems like a lot of writing😭 which I could neverrrr but the minor in photography seems like such a fun little escape from the other two as well
i think it would be such a cool experience getting to manage all three of those. personally i’d wanna do the baseball one since you’d get to be outside. do you have a preference or are you just kind of gonna feel it out and see which one you like the best?

propaganda, especially for younger people is wild
and the fact that it's not hard to sniff out cause anyone who's actually done neutral writing can clearly see when something is purposely biased
