can i be controversial about addison cheating for a second

i think the reason so many people (mainly man centered straight women) dislike addison for cheating but don't dislike mark and derek is because (other than just misogyny, thats connected but i wanna talk a bit deeper about this) they do not think she is on their level

first of all greys is a very morally grey show especially in the early seasons the story line and the characters make it a point to actually show us the other side and this was the case with addison

when we first meet her we are kind of conditioned to hate her right (i didn't i watched the damn show for her but thats just me) and then she admits openly to having cheated and the audience is like HAH we have something now

but she is unquestionably a good person and we see that over and over again. then we remember she cheated and we are confused because this doesn't add up with the character we have grown to like. this whole time derek is treating her like FUCKING GARBAGE.

and then we get a bit of insight into their marriage and we see how compatible they supposedly were and then we learn more about how derek started distancing. and how he never wanted to spend time with her anymore, how she was alone all the time. he was too busy with his career. now mind you from when we meet her and when we meet him we can outright say that she was a better surgeon, she was world renowned and part of a neonatal elite even before we met her. derek was just a good neurosurgeon. so this man had a world class surgeon wife and he was just a guy and he was the one to not be available not her.

now there is an argument to be made that the reason he was acting like this is much of what he later did with meredith when he stole her work essentially which is he couldn't stand that addison was so much further in her career and he had to step it up to feel better. this hypothesis would also add up with his god complex and his need to be the smarted person in the room. he thinks he is the sun after all.

and then there was mark, who was a damn good surgeon (from my understanding he too had a bigger reputation than derek when we meet him) but unlike derek, mark made time for addison. he was there and he noticed her when derek didn't. and addison is chronically underappreciated thanks to bizzy and the captain (bizzy is obvious but the captain had never seen her perform her world class surgeries until private practice even tho he himself is some type of doctor one would think a father would be elated to watch his genius daughter perform miracles). so mark appreciated her and he was there and he loved her and she cheated not because she didn't love derek but because of her own weakness and lack of fulfilled needs. and yes some of this information is in private practice but... even in greys they admit a lot of this. and her cheating seems almost excusable... and if not its somehow understandable.

now derek and mark. derek cheated with meredith (TWICE). when he left NYC he did not divorce addison, he did not tell her they were separated he did nothing of sorts he just poof went away. then proceeded to have a SERIOUS relationship with mer and didn't even bother to tell his wife or meredith. he all but sexually harassed an intern into being into a relationship with him and didn't bother to end his marriage. this is cheating plain and simple this is "we were on a break" on steroids where it's even more clear that the man is a fucking scumbag. then he "gives addison another chance" only to again totally ignore the shit out of her and chase meredith around. and finally cheat again during prom. and when u re watch the prom scene, meredith participated but she didn't initiate, derek did. he was emotionally cheating the entire time he was "trying to make it work with addison". but the audience is not forced to look at it in that way because we are supposed to be rooting for merder.

mark is an even simpler case. he cheated on addison for no reason other than manwhore. he slept with his best friends wife. he cheats on lexie with addison, tried to get addison to help him raise his kid and grandkid. he like derek has an emotional affair with someone (with lexie as he is dating the lady whatever name she had after they broke up). he also arguably cheats on teddy but this is really more about how u as the audience perceives it since we don't get confirmations that they were any type of exclusive. and nobody really cares? he isn't condemned for it. be cause he is a silly guy he is mark.

and now through all this im supposed to believe that addison is the cheater? satan? the ruler of all that is evil?

now back to my original point. straight girls who center men in their lives they make excuses for men while condemning women. who aborts marks baby when he was so excited about it (HE BOUGHT A SHIRT IF THAT'S NOT INDICATION THAT THE SERIAL MANWHORE CHEATER IS GONNA BE A GOOD DAD IDK WHAT IS) and he was so good with Sloan and Sofia?? why would you do that to mark he is just a silly guy, he is mark, he is nice. for them addison is inexcusable because they want derek and they want mark. they can't fathom addison cheating on derek because they are literally falling for the in-show propaganda about him being McDreamy. who cheats on the perfect boyfriend neurosurgeon McDreamy? addison being double board certified world class "only 8 people in the world can do what i do" neonatal surgeon doesn't matter anymore she is just the woman who cheated on the perfect McDreamy.

while i'm already rambling about meddison i'm very surprised at the amount of top addison enjoys. like i get it i want kate walsh to top me as well BUT BUT BUT BUT this is addison "i don't do that i'm from connecticut" monogamery. like yes she is socially dominant but you give her an ounce of emotions and this girl is falling to her knees.

ON THE OTHER HAND meredith "(that doesn't look comfortable) trust me it's not" grey is a freak (lovingly). she is slutty and comfortable with her sexuality and I would give my left arm that she is more experienced than addison because of this.

like how many people could addison have possibly been with before derek/mark? if we consider she is in her late 30s when we meet her and her and derek have been together for 16 years. that would put her in WASP territory in her early early 20s where she thought the worst rebelling she could have done was get her ears pierced.

like she knows she's objectively attractive but does she have the confidence as much as meredith does HUH HMMM HHUMH brainrot
