The Martian! DPS AU out of context, part 2
So when I hit 50k in this AU I did part 1 over here. And - guess what - I just wrote the final words of the epilogue! A Cosmic Sense is officially a complete draft! Of course, that doesn't mean it's finished; there's about 115k of words I now have to sift through, add missing scenes to, edit for tone, etc etc etc. But it's finally done - the longest fic I've written yet. I'm super excited to share it in a couple of weeks, but in the meantime please accept this AU out of context, part 2, electric boogaloo:

it's wip wednesday!
In the light of the UK Supreme Court backsliding the fight for trans rights by years, I think we could all do with a little bit of joy (or at least something to take the mind off it). Here is Todd being an annoying little brother and worming Jeff's relationship status out of him.
(P.S. If you can, consider donating to UK trans charities like TransActual and Mermaids. It's getting pretty rough out here.)

Robert Sean Leonard on meeting up with Ethan Hawke at the White Horse Tavern:

"We'd meet at White Horse Tavern at two in the morning because Ethan would call and say, "I figured something out about Romeo and Juliet. You have to come down here!" You think you're the center of the world. That was my favorite time in my life."
"You are the center of the universe, and you meet Ethan Hawke at 2 in the morning at the White Horse Tavern to discuss 'Romeo and Juliet' because it feels that important."
I love that he used the phrase 'full of beans.' Never heard of that until now.

Ethan Hawke about a scene that never made it into Dead Poets Society, from BAFTA's A Life in Pictures, December 2014
I’ve never had another director do this where he said, “Okay, I need a scene in the movie where you two become friends, where I see you two becoming friends, and I want you to get together and write me three three-page scenes that take place inside your dorm room, and we’ll shoot one of them.” ... so Robert Sean Leonard and I went back and we’re like, “We have to write this scene, what are you talking about?” And we really worked hard on it, and you know we stayed up all night for three or four days and we wrote three versions of the scenes, one of which [Peter Weir] did shoot. And it’s not in the movie, and I don’t think it ever was going to be in the movie, but we became friends you know ... And funnily enough, five years later ... NBC was gonna air Dead Poets Society right, and he needed to add four minutes to the movie for the commercial breaks, you know it’s the kind of thing that they don’t do any more. And he called us both up and he says, “It made the cut.” You know, “You were one of the last to go,” and he said, “I always wanted that scene to be in the movie, and now it’s back in the movie.” And so we watched it on NBC and we saw our scene.
(Does anyone have any more info on this? I know he and RSL also helped write the desk set scene, but I have no clue what scene this is referring to. Do you reckon part of it's the "What do you think of my father" scene? Those scenes were included in the TV version of the film so I think that's what this is about possibly?? Either way I find it very sweet how involved they really were in the process of filming)

If we shadows have offended, Think but this, and all is mended, That you have but slumber’d here While these visions did appear. And this weak and idle theme, No more yielding but a dream, Gentles, do not reprehend: if you pardon, we will mend: And, as I am an honest Puck, If we have unearned luck Now to ‘scape the serpent’s tongue, We will make amends ere long; Else the Puck a liar call; So, good night unto you all. Give me your hands, if we be friends, And Robin shall restore amends

been rewatching leverage as i procrastinate my last projects this semester (i only have one more, thank god) and because i cant control myself when it comes to niche aus i started drafting up a dps con artists au
blurb under the cut, although im not sure if this would make it into the story i was just testing it out for the most part and it also sort of doesnt make sense
1975 “God,” Neil shut the door loudly and caught everyone’s attention. “I hate wearing these suits.” He wrestled with his tie and let it hang loose from his neck, at the same time Charlie walked out of the kitchen with a pan of whatever new recipe he was trying that week. “Todd’s a fan of it though, aren’t ya, Toddy?” Charlie remarked, getting a glare from Todd who had been sitting on the floor poring over his notebook until Neil walked in. “Don’t believe anything he says, Neil, he’s never told the truth a day in his life.” Todd said as Neil sat on the couch he was leaning against. “It’s part of the job!” Charlie walked back into the kitchen. “He knows he’s not on the job, right?” Pitts asked from the stairs. Meeks, from upstairs, “The man wants to feel included!” Neil was still hung up on one thing. “Do you actually like the suit?” He whispered, getting a similar glare from Todd but a tad bit softer than the one directed at Charlie. “I like you in anything,” Todd said even quieter.
the suit thing was fuelled by my love for rsl in suits. Yeah. neil needed to wear the suit for part of the con
the main idea is that the boys stumble into doing cons one way or another because of their backgrounds (neil having run away from home, todd who was in the foster care system and had to take care of himself just like parker leverage, charlie who's just really into magic tricks and made money with three card monte etc etc) and they become a crew over the years, with their full crew coming together around the late 60s (which does include ginny as an occasional recruit, and then there's cameron the fbi agent who investigates white collar crimes and begrudgingly sometimes accepts the help from the crew)
nothing here is really set in stone and it likely won't go anywhere for a while because ive got that anderperry chess au i wanna work on, but i did wanna put this out there in case someone liked leverage/con artists/heists the way i do
#dead poets society#anderperry#dps leverage au#please tell me theres at least one dps and leverage fan

To this day people will cry over the knowledge and works destroyed when the library of Alexandria was burned down.
And yet no tears are shed as Palestinian archives and libraries are bombed.
Saint Porphyrius Church, a structure built in the 5th century and the 3rd oldest church in the world has been bombed.
It's not an accident.
Israel aren't simply killing Palestinians, they are trying to erase that there ever were Palestinians in the first place.
Destroying their livelihoods, trying to to destroy their culture and history and pretend this land was never there's.
It's easy to deny someone's existence when there's no record of them.
Which is why it's so important to look at the atrocities and bear witness to what's happening.
But to also recognise that Palestine is more than it's suffering.
There is a living breathing culture, of art, history, literacy which all come from the Palestinians.
Traditions they've carried for centuries.
So while we mourn the dead, we shall fight for the living. Fight for the preservation of their crafts, amplify their voices as they speak on their culture.
Palestinian history and culture is alive. And no matter how much the world wants to erase that, they cannot and will not.
