and yet it's the same boy sitting on his blood stained hospital bed, muttering something in the ancient dialect. maybe he really is her.

The conjunction of light in relation to Zeke’s portion of the war army back in Marley is so crazy to me… especially if you’re like me and think Marley is a largely scientific/anti-religious country. Like his resurrection scene where all the rain clouds faded away and was replaced by glowing sunlight?? THAT but it’s a death army on the march and if it gets you, you and your city and your country is fucked. But they’re shrouded in holy light. And the invaders are hideous and mutilated and the embodiment of the ‘Other’ and horrifying but there’s luminescense all around them and the plants are all growing back.

MAJOR SPOILERS but I just thought of when Zeke sees Grisha for the first time in over 20 years. Despite years of resentment, he lets his father hug him and cries. I love how vulnerable that moment is, and how it acknowledges his years of unresolved hurt, rejection, and abandonment. I know he technically turned his parents in, but that doesn't mean Zeke would have even known feelings what would have come after at that age. Plus, his parents regularly dumped him off at his grandparents for meetings and disregarded his emotional wellbeing, so there was already neglect and abandonment there.

i find post appocalypse as escapist fantasy to be fascinating. like most people logically know a zombie outbreak would not, in fact, be a good thing for humanity at large. however sometimes u can tell the people writing it find the idea of total societal collapse to be kinda appealing? no rent or deadlines. you loot soup cans from the grocery store and your biggest issue is something you can shoot in the face with a gun. and you pretend you're a badass who totally knows how to grow food from scratch and wouldn't die of preventable diseases 2 months in. i get it man. i understand.
