I read your tags on the post you got from me. Up to v3 can seem boring, but that's because it's setup for the real plot, which starts as v3 ends.

See, I would argue that any show that takes three entire seasons to set up the plot is probably one with issues. I don't really like the term "filler", mainly because people tend to think any episode with fun character interaction is "filler", but there are a LOT of episodes in Volumes 1 through 3 that just are not entertaining and do very little character work on top of that.

The thing with RWBY is that the first few volumes tend to meander about instead of explaining things that are actually important to the plot, like it takes I think 13 whole episodes to actually have a character exposit what a Semblance is, and thats one of the core mechanics of the world and one of the most important aspects of Huntsman academies. Its just a slog to get through, and I probably would have dropped the show entirely if it weren't for having friends who had a really good sales pitch for the show.

That being said, I am glad I stuck with it, its a show that has a lot of redeeming qualities to it after you get over that hurdle. Its entertaining and a fun time, and characters like Yang hit the ball out of the park when it comes to dealing with genuinely complex character writing. Its the stuff like that which makes slogging through the first three volumes worth it. And that's not even to say everything in Volume 1, 2, and 3 was bad, Pyrrha is literally one of the best characters the show has ever made, its just that those really brilliant moments were few and far between at first until the show decided to go sprinting down the road at mach speeds.

TLDR; RWBY started off kinda bad and then grew into a genuinely pretty good show, all because the people working on it improved their skills and tried really hard to improve their art, and I respect that.
