10 years ago Susan walked down the aisle in her mother’s exquisite gown. Just seeing these pictures for the first time and Susan reminded me that I altered the dress and made her the lovely corset in a very short period of time. I saw one photo of Susan and her husband walking under the trees with pure joy on their faces, in that special moment! Reconnecting with people that I’ve worked with over the years and seeing pics and hearing stories of the day, catching up with their life journey… it’s when the decades start to fly, these connections are all the more precious! Wedding corset. Look two. Aka Dance Party Attire. Dusty pink British cotton coutil, sprung steel spiral bones. Slipper satin from grandmothers 1940’s wedding gown. White beaded lace from Mom’s 1980’s Demetrius gown. Heavy chantilly lifted from the bride’s cotillion dress. Blue cotton heart made from great grandmother’s 1930 wedding dress. Happy Labor Day! I actually took the day off!! Always love it when Mariah pops in…. We can’t resist a bit of dress up! Even vintage gowns that look pretty good need love… it’s like a car with a rusted frame! The thread on anything from this era is usually a bit dry rotted. 😳. Something you don’t see right away, but the potential for a blow out is real. A restoration involves taking apart the garment to resew all seams, correcting any fit issues, proper cleaning of stains (stains are the hallmark of the prestige of wearing a vintage gown!) reinforcing or replacing the armpits, as most of them are damaged from old perspiration. the pressing alone breathes life back in, but it really can only@be done when complete as to not stresss the fibers any more. happy Friday!Charlotte’s dress… I can’t say the word “peach” the regular way, it ALWAYS has to be the French version, ‘peche’ 😊French names for colors and fabrics and are like word porn.
