Interesting Facts About Popular Designer Dogs.
Most of you are wondering about what the Heck is a Designer Dog? and why are they so much popular in western countries?  In this Article we cover lots of facts about popular designer dog breeds. If you are looking for the definition of designer dog on Google, then you might be landed on this top Urban Dictionary definition from 2008. “Designer Dog -What irresponsible backyard breeders and puppy mills call mutts and sell for exorbitant amounts of money.” It seems that many of the definitions found on the site follow suit. But, is there more to it? Are designer dogs more than just mutts with hefty price tags? Well, how did the designer dog trend start? Throughout human history, man has bred dogs to achieve offspring good at performing specific tasks. From hunting dogs to herding dogs, most of the purebred dogs we know today are indeed mixes of other dogs either still around or extinct.
Before the term “designer dog” came into vogue, there was the Cockapoo – a hybrid breed that came into popularity in the 1960’s. This breed is the combination of a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle. He’s been quite the popular pet known for his intelligence and affection. Nowadays, the Cockapoo breed is considered one of the founding fathers of the “designer dogs”, but the term doesn’t appear until decades later. That honor goes to the Labradoodle, which as the name suggests is a cross between a Labrador Retriever and a Standard Poodle. The Labradoodle is often cited as creating the “designer dog’ craze with a little help from the media. The Labradoodle became known in 1988, when Australian breeder Wally Conron crossed the
Labrador Retriever and Standard Poodle at the Royal Guide Dogs Associations of Australia in Victoria. Conron wanted to combine the low-shedding coat of the poodle with the gentleness and trainability of a Labrador retriever, to provide a guide dog suitable for people with allergies to fur and dander. The resulting dog was a success. Labradoodles are now widely used around the world as guide, assistance, and therapy dogs, as well as being popular family dogs. The name Labradoodle, like Cockapoo, is a portmanteau, a word created by smashing two words together. It’s become the norm in designer dog naming.
One such purebred dog with mixed breed roots is the Rat Terrier. The Rat Terrier recipe ended up with more than seven ingredients, including Smooth Fox Terrier, the now-extinct Old English White Terrier, Manchester Terrier, Bull Terrier, Whippet, Italian Greyhound, and Beagle. Yet, the Rat Terrier is considered a breed and recognized by the American Kennel Club and the United Kennel Club. It seems that every combination of dog imaginable has been tried. We’ve got Puggles (Poodle and Beagle Mixes), Chiweenies (Chihuahua-Dachshund mixes), Beago (Golden Retriever mix with Beagle) and everything else imaginable. While Poodles are often one of the two parents (mostly for their intelligence and no shed coat) it seems that no two dogs are off-limits to be designer dog crosses. Currently, the fad has slowed, especially compared to its height in the 1990’s. But it’s still alive and well. One of the newest designer dogs to hit the scene is the Pomsky. This cross between the Pomeranian and Siberian Husky created in 2012 has swept the Internet. The puppies are adorable, no doubt. So, I guess you're asking, “What’s the difference between a designer dog and a mutt?” A mutt, also referred to as a random-bred dog, results from breeding different purebreds or other mixed-breed dogs together. The dogs have no pedigree, and usually are the result of accidental matings. It’s difficult if not impossible to predict what these puppies will look like or how they’ll behave.
Mixed breed dogs make wonderful pets, though. They are a popular choice for pets all over the world. The term “designer dog” refers to a hybrid. Hybrids are created by combining existing breeds to form new ones. They are intentionally paired usually and the heritage of the parents is known in a true designer dog. Breeders dedicated to establishing the variety as a true breed work to establish a predictable type, working with several generations of dogs. But the line between the two is not always so well defined. The designer dog label today is used to market hybrid dogs, which may (or may not) be more healthy, cute, trainable or any other fill-in-the-blank claim. Puppy mills jumped on the designer dog bandwagon to create boatloads of interesting mixes they sell for high prices, all with the portmanteau style names. Sometimes it seems that the name is more important than breed comparability or desirable traits
of the resulting dog. “Oh, those two names sound cute smashed together, breed it.” Shelters have even gotten in on the action. Shelters sometimes label mixed breeds as a designer breed to promote adoptions. Conron’s misgivings were not about creating the Labradoodle. This designer dog has been a wonderful service dog, proving not only great at being a guide dog for the blind but as a helping companion for people with all types of physical and mental handicaps. His misgiving seems to stem from the fact that living creatures have become a fad, that designer dog breed names were being used as a marketing ploy, and that labels were more important than the dogs’ well being. So, what do you think? Do you share Conron’s concerns? Are designer dogs just high-priced mutts? Let’s discuss it in another great Article.

10 Smallest and Cutest Dog Breed in the World
According to American rock guitarist Dick Dale "There's a saying. If you want someone to love you forever, buy a dog, feed it and keep it around." That’s why so many people have pets, some keep them for physical attractiveness or as loyal companion while some have pet for their killing cuteness. Pets whether it is cat or dog, their adorable look help their owners relieve stress and loneliness. From Pugs to Poodles we're counting down the top ten smallest dog breeds! For this list, we aren't looking at the smallest dog on record, but rather the small dog breed overall.
1. Russkiy Toy: In soviet Russia, dog owns you! Well, maybe not; but the smallest dog on our list, the Russkiy Toy, is a breed from, you guessed it, Russia. Mostly calm, intelligent, trusting and loving, the Russkiy as per the usual for small breed dogs, suffer from Small Dog Syndrome if not trained and brought up properly. The smallest of small dogs, the breed grows to be about 8 to 10 inches or 20 to 26 centimeters in height, and usually weighs just shy of what a gallon of milk does, 3 to 6 pounds or 1 to 3 kilograms. The breed can come as both long, and short haired dogs, have smaller heads, slender bodies, and long legs. Said to be incredible companion dogs, they are suitable for family circles of any and all kinds.
2. Chihuahua: The dog that most people probably thought would be the number one pick, the Chihuahua, is the oldest breed of dog from the American continent, originates from Mexico, and is now currently one of the most popular kind of dog in urban areas, due to its small size which makes it perfect for apartment living. They are very small dogs, weighing in approximately 3 to 7 pounds or 1 to 3 kilograms and only reaching heights of 6 to 9 inches or 15 to 23 centimeters. Proud and bold, the Chihuahua makes for an exceptional companion dogs as they are fiercely loyal, and grow to be very emotionally involved to their owners.
3. Yorkshire Terrier : The Yorkshire Terrier breed, often times called a Yorkie for short, is both vigorous and energetic, and your typical delicate toy dog breed. This little dog is a lover of comfort ability, and enjoys very much being a lap dog; which isn't much of a problem, considering they average about 4 to 7 pounds or 2 to 3 kilograms, and only standing at about 5 to 7 inches or 13 to 18 centimeters tall. Their coat is glossy, silky and fine textured, with multiple different color combinations; though very particular in patterns and location of color. Yet another small English bred dog, the Yorkie was developed for the working class, used for catching rats and mice that contaminated the work places and homes.
4. Pražský Krysařík: The Pražský Krysařík, otherwise known as a "Prague Ratter", hails from the Czech Republic and is an energetic, friendly, and a very playful small dog; reaching 8 to 9 inches or 20 to 23 centimeters in height, and weighing between 2 and 6 pounds or 1 to 3 kilograms. A true pack dog, they often attach themselves to every member of the family; which results in separation anxiety when they are left alone. The small and delicate frame of this dog breed is emphasized through its thin, glossy coat consisting of mostly black and tan fur. Proper care for this dog breed is important, as they are prone to "Small Dog Syndrome", a personality disorder in which the dog believes they are the pack leader over their human owners.
5. Pomeranian: The German born Pomeranian is best described as being a loving, explosion of fluff, wrapped in a shell of ego and demand. This breed of dog weighs between 4 and 8 pounds or 2 to 4 kilograms and grows to around 6 to 8 inches or 15 to 20 centimeters in height. They come in a variety of colors and patterns, ranging from white, black, and a very rare purple, and are famous for their curly tails. The thick top coat of the Pomeranian forms a mane-like ruff around their neck, which they are commonly well known for. Friendly towards people and other animals, the Pomeranian makes for a wonderful pet for the family.
6. Biewer Terrier: First bred in England, the Biewer Terrier appears to be elegant, but also arrogant. This Terrier has long, straight, and silky hair, usually brown, white and black in color, and sports a very fancy beard, if I do say so myself. Barely reaching 7 to 9 inches or 18 to 23 centimeters in height, and weighing in around 4 to 8 pounds or 2 to 4 kilograms, the personality of the Biewer is said to be lighthearted and whimsical, possessing a childlike demeanor, but are overall very obedient dogs, making for very loyal companions that are very much child friendly. This breed craves adventure and is a highly energetic and clever dog, requiring the room to roam and run around freely.
7. Maltese: The Maltese is easily considered, among dog enthusiasts, to be the gentlest of the toy dog breeds. Having a single layer coat, the Maltese's fur hangs straight down from its small frame. The Maltese grows to an average height of 8 to 10 inches or 20 to 25 centimeters and weighs around 7 to 9 pounds or 3 to 4 kilograms. Bred as a companion dog from the Mediterranean Basin area, it has gained considerable popularity around the world. Though like most small dogs, they are notorious for severe separation anxiety when they are left alone. So if you have one, make sure you lock up your slippers before leaving Fifi home alone.
8. Bolonka: The Russian bred Bolonki are cheerful, playful, and sturdy dogs, with a happy and loving disposition. Like all small dogs, they were bred to be companion dogs, growing to heights of roughly 7 to 10 inches or 17 to 25 centimeters, with an average weight between 4 and 11 pounds or 2 to 5 kilograms. The Bolonka sports a dense, thick, yet soft coat, that forms in large curls or waves that usually require maintenance around the eyes. Breed coats range in color from solid black, brown and white, and many different combinations of all 3 colors.
9. The Cheagle: The Cheagle is type of Beagle mix dog breed deliberately developed by crossing the Chihuahua and the Beagle. Formally it is not recognised by American Kennel Club in the USA. It is mostly seen in cream, brown, white, and black coat colour. It also has a soft, shiny, and short coat. Consists of a wider muzzle and hanging ears. It grows to 9 to 14 inches in height and weight 9 to 20 pounds. It is kind of good apartment dog due to its barking habit. The Cheagle bark rarely or it is moderate barker dog. It has quite a long lifespan compare its purebreed parent it is approximately 4 to 15 years. It is fun-loving loyal, friendly, protective, bold and active dog. It is very good with small children and also accommodates easily with other pets in the house. Due to it's purebred parent its quite stubborn to train but early age training is effective. It's grooming needs are moderate due to its size, sheds moderately due to single coat and also it is not a hypoallergic dog.  It can be one of the best choice for the new pet owner.
10. Pug:  We start off the list with a dog that may be so cute, it's ugly, or so ugly it's cute. The pug, hailing from China, is described often times as "Multum in parvo", or "much in little". Typically this breed grows to heights of 10 to 12 inches or 25 to 30 centimeters, and usually weigh between 14 to 20 pounds or 6 to 9 kilograms. Amazing Historical facts about Golden Labrador and Golden Retriever!
Are you looking for a lovable family companion?. Retrievers are some of the most popular breeds in and make a good choice. But how do you choose between a Labrador or a Golden? They’re both incredibly similar, sharing intelligence, athleticism, and a goofy personality that dog lovers love! Let’s find out what these two amazing retriever breeds have in common and their difference. The Labrador Retriever descends from the Saint Johns Water Dog, a now extinct breed that originated in Canada, bred to help fishermen drag their nets across the ice and retrieving fish, beginning in the 1700s. The Saint Johns dogs were exported to England sometime in the early 1800s to be used as hunting retrievers. It’s in England where the Earl of Malmesbury was the first to use the name Labrador, after the Labrador region of Canada. In Newfoundland, the Saint Johns breed disappeared because of government restrictions and tax laws. Families were allowed to keep no more than one dog, and owning a female was highly taxed, so girl puppies were culled from litters. In England, however, the now Labrador breed survived and thrived, and the Kennel Club recognised the Labrador Retriever as a distinct breed in 1903. Today, the Labrador breed is the most popular dog breed worldwide. While no single person can take all the credit for creating the Golden Retriever, the main person attributed its creation was a Scottish aristocrat and avid hunter named Dudley Marjoribanks the 1st Baron Tweedmouth. Lord Tweedmouth live in the Highlands of Scotland and it is here that the Golden Retriever arose as an independent and separate breed of dog. Marjoribanks was looking for a Retriever that excelled in retrieving from water as well as on land. He also wanted the dog to be loyal and even-tempered in the home. His original cross was a yellow coloured retriever and a now extinct Tweed Water Spaniel. In 1868, this cross produced a litter that included four pups; these four became the basis of a breeding program which included the Irish Setter, the Bloodhound, the St. John's water dog of Newfoundland, and two more wavy-coated black Retrievers. The bloodline was also inbred and selected for trueness to Marjoribanks' idea of the ultimate hunting dog. Golden Retrievers were first accepted for registration by The Kennel Club of England in 1903, as Flat Coats-Golden. They were first exhibited in 1908, and in 1911 were recognised as a breed referred to as Retriever (Golden and Yellow). In 1938, the Golden Retriever Club of America was founded. Check our article on Goldendoodle vs Golden Retriever. Golden Retrievers are ranked number two for American Kennel Club Registrations. As with the Labrador, the Golden is consistently in the top five most registered breeds by the AKC.

Can beagle be a good apartment dog?
While considering the perfect dog for your house, you should also take into consideration the dog’s energy level, noisiness, and even friendliness. It is very important for a responsible dog owner to find out what breed you’re interested in whether it will be a good fit for your family, home, and lifestyle. Though Beagle is friendly to people and considered good with children, they require a lot of space. The Beagle does not do well in an apartment or small house. As a hound, this dog is an active, athletic and energetic one that is happiest in the house with a backyard and plenty of room to run. The beagle is a scent hound, developed primarily for hunting small animal like rabbits. Beagles are intelligent but, as a result of being bred for the long chase, they are single-minded and determined, which can make them difficult to train. Another trait they have is they are smell driven which means they tend to chase the smell they’ve noticed. Thus they require a house which is properly fenced. Otherwise, they can run away. Being a hound, these dogs have a habit of hauling Which may trouble your relations with your neighbors. The conclusion is they are not the best apartment dogs. Don’t give up on your dream pooch search! There are so many apartment dogs like Bulldog, King Charles Spaniel, Chihuahua, Greyhound and even Golden Retriever which could be a great fit for folks with less space. If enough exercise is provided daily, even golden retrievers can adapt to any type of home. Check out our comparison article on Golden retriever Vs Beagle for more information.

Which one is better? beagles or basset hounds
These two breeds have some common physical characteristics including their drooping ears, fur color, and size. Do you have trouble distinguishing these two breeds from each other if so, don’t worry here we will the difference between the basset hound and Beagle? Both the basset hound and beagle originated from the United Kingdom. In addition, both of these breeds have been traditionally used for hunting. however, nowadays they’re commonly considered a great companion. Both of these breeds from the United Kingdom were previously used for hunting and to track prey such as rabbits, hares, deer, and wild boar. These breeds were incredibly successful in this job as they have an incredible sense of smell. In fact, along with a bloodhound or the Fox hound these breeds are known for having the most developed sense of smell. The popularity of both of these breeds has increased in recent years. The reason for this is because they are not overly large dogs. They are intelligent, obedient and have an easy coat to care for. In addition, they are incredibly resistant to diseases and have fewer respiratory and skin problems than other dogs of a similar size. But how can we differentiate them? let’s discuss the key clues. Both breeds have large drooping ears. Basset presents numerous folds along the body and even on the head. Despite being cheerful animals, this gives them an expression of characteristic sadness. This fold does not occur in a beagle and the absence of their wrinkles helps distinguish them from the basset hound. Looking at the body is one of the simplest ways to distinguish a beagle from a basset hound. Basses are characterized by having an elongated body and short legs by contrast the appearance of the beagle is more square someone less corpulent and taller than Bassets. Coat color is the main cause of confusion between these two breeds since both are tri-colored that meaning they can both carry a coat that combines a white, black or fiery color. Both dog breeds are intelligent, obedient and very easy to train. In addition, it is extremely uncommon for a beagle and a basset to have problems with aggressiveness. Both breeds tend to be affable even with strangers. On the other hand, Basset is somewhat more obstinate than beagles. Beagles are more playful and active especially when they are young. On the other hand, it is possible that beagles are slightly more intelligent than Bassets. Although this depends a lot on the individual and has been somewhat generalized so now let’s see if you can distinguish both breeds. If there are any other struggles to distinguish between the dog breeds like Beagle Vs Golden Retriever Or Beagle Vs Pug from each other. Don’t worry, We are here to help you.
