One piece has so many characters when you think about it. I know some of the characters are pretty one dimensional and their personalities are reduced to small quips. But Oda does such a good job of introducing all of these characters and having the viewer remember them all. It’s all part of the excellent world building, in the real world there really are so many players and so many backstories. In our current world, where real life people are being called “NPCs” I just feel like this type of story structure is building the general populations empathy. I think that’s part of why this story is so popular, among many other things.
