What is Progesterone Testing?
The most accurate way of timing canine breeding is by progesterone testing. If you’re looking to breed dogs and are asking ‘Where can I find progesterone testing near me?’ you’ve come to the right place.
A quantitative progesterone blood test is reported as a numeric result, usually expressed as ng/dl. It can be used along with your own assessment of the behaviour of the bitch and the dog, and vaginal cytology, to pinpoint the best time for breeding.
It can be particularly useful for dogs with a history of breeding difficulties or when you are planning a long journey in order to breed. It can also be hugely beneficial for breeding that you think is likely to result in cesarean delivery.
At Pet Ultrasound, we have been carrying out progesterone testing for many years, along with many other aspects of canine breeding.
We’re here to help you discuss or arrange testing, canine fertility issues, or artificial insemination. Whatever your requirements, get in touch today to give your bitch and/or dog the best chance of successful mating.

Why are Dogs Artificially Inseminated?
There are several reasons why dog breeders might prefer artificial insemination:
·         It enables the use of semen from stud dogs anywhere. This reduces the fees and potential stress associated with transporting dogs for mating purposes.
·         ·        If previous mating attempts have been unsuccessful or there are canine fertility issues that prevent the bitch from conceiving naturally, artificial insemination may be the only option.
·        ·       Frozen semen allows for the use of ‘superior’ genetic traits from stud dogs who have passed away.
·         ·     The spread of sexually transmitted diseases such as Brucellosis, canine herpes virus (CHV), and canine transmissible venereal tumour (CTVF) can be slowed down or limited.
·         Artificial insemination in dogs can help widen gene pools as genetic traits cease to be limited to specific geographic areas.
At Pet Ultrasound UK, we offer a range of canine fertility solutions, including artificial insemination, to help breeders in all manner of situations.
Based in Morley, we serve Leeds and the surrounding areas. For full details, visit out website or call 0113 2539491.

About Progesterone Testing
Progesterone is a steroid hormone produced by the corpora lutea and maturing follicles in a bitch. Levels of progesterone follow a pretty standard pattern before, during, and after ovulation, with maximum concentrations usually being reached at around 20 – 30 days after heat.
A progesterone test has been proven to be the most dependable and accurate way of determining the optimum time for breeding and results are available in a matter of minutes.
Most bitches are ready to mate around within days 12-18 of their cycle, but each is different and progesterone testing is recommended to make sure they are mated at the right time to provide the best chance of success. Testing is usually carried out on or around day 9 of the bitch’s cycle.
At Pet Ultrasound, we specialise in all canine fertility procedures and techniques. Progesterone testing is just one of the services we offer.

What to Ask a Dog Walker before Handing Over Your Lead
Professional dog walkers are a familiar sight in parks and fields across the UK these days. They provide a valuable service, ensuring your furry friend gets plenty of exercise while you’re at work or away. And it’s a great opportunity for your dog to socialise.
But it’s important you do your research to find the right dog walker for your pet.
Here are some important questions to ask before agreeing to a dog walking service:
●        How experienced are you with dogs? They should be conversant with a dogs' body language and behaviour patterns.
●        What are your training methods? Dogs should only receive positive, reward-based training.
●        Where will you walk my dog and how will you get there?
●        Will you be walking other dogs at the same time?
●        Are you able to break up dog fights if necessary?
●        What happens if you're sick?
●        Are you licensed and insured?
●        Are you certified to provide canine first aid?
By getting satisfactory answers to these questions, you can be confident your dog is in safe hands.
Pet Ultrasound is a family-run business in Leeds that offers all kinds of canine fertility treatments and progesterone testing. If you’re considering getting involved in dog breeding or have any queries about stud dogs or bitches get in touch.
