I am constantly thinking about the fact that Scar actually genuinely betrayed Grian in Third Life.

Like, I know he backtracked right away and instantly offered to let Grian kill him and win, which absolutely lessened the impact I'm sure, but you can't call taksies backsies on helping stab your partner to death while they scream at you for betraying them after all you've been through, right? I just feel like there was still some emotional impact there that there's no way was actually resolved by Scar's gesture, no matter how meaningful the gesture was.

Especially because of the timing. Grian had long since chosen to stay well beyond when he had the option to leave. Grian and Scar had stood on a pillar above the server and Grian had dared to say out loud, for the first time, that they, he and Scar, together, was the only thing that mattered to him. Grian and Scar had already all but won, together. Grian, even after seeing Scar betray every other person they ever met, even knowing who Scar is fully, chose to trust and stay with him in the end, and it worked, they were at the end.

And then Scar chose to stab Grian in the back.

Of course Scar made up for it in a way, when he kneeled to Grian in that stream of water and offered up his life, in return for all Grian gave him. That was proof enough that Scar cared about Grian. And Grian did forgive him.

But don't you guys think that maybe the potential trauma of Scar doing exactly what Grian always thought he would and turning on him, after everything they'd been through (even if the betrayal didn't last long), might play a role in how their relationship went moving forward? The notes of bitterness and distance and something akin to hurt from Grian through Last Life and into Double Life?
